Considering for March break 2018 for a party of 5.

Any advice on what is the least expensive approach and best timing for purchasing Discovery Cove tickets with the dolphin swim?

Will be staying at Orlando timeshare and could take or leave any included admission for Sea World. Unlikely that we would take advantage of any Aquatica admission.

We have been to Discovery Cove a few times and thoroughly enjoyed our visit. We have stayed at Lakeshore Reserve and thought the additional admission to Sea World and Aquatica was great. Location wise we would visit for a short period since admission was included in the DC ticket.

I do not believe there is great deals for a discount available. We went through Undercover Tourist and received a discount. Currently it looks like $12-20 off. The tickets are still not cheap but a great day and we saw additional value in Sea World and Aquatica. Which sounds like you may not.

I usually booked a month or so in advance. They do have a limited number of tickets they sell. Dependent on when you want to go this could be an issue if you wait until last minute.

Maybe someone will know of a greater discount?

It has been a couple years since we have done this.....but we use to purchase a Super Grover passport via Seasame Place for very little money during their December sale. I think it was around $189 per person. This passport got us into every SeaWorld Park with free VIP parking and a host of other benefits. One of them was discounted DC admission for passholder and up to 4 guests. The cost of DC was $99 per person with this pass.

I don't think that $99 DC deal included the dolphin experience. I'm a Sea World pass holder and $99 is usually the advertised price for the "day resort package" with the discount.

To the OP, I'd reconsider taking advantage of the Sea World admission. It's a great park!

You are correct, the $99 does not include dolphin.....if memory recall is correct it was $139 or $149 with dolphin.
