Discovery Beach or Resort on Cocoa?

Which one would you all recommend please?

I've stayed at ROCB and I loved it. I haven't stayed at Discovery but it seems great too. However, here's what I've noticed.

ROCB seems to be a a good bit pricier to purchase when comparing mostly equal weeks / units.
ROCB is obviously gold crown in RCI while Discovery is silver crown.

I would likely use my unit often when purchased, but I know would like exchange at times too. How does Discovery trade as compared to ROCB?

I also probably would rent it on occasion. How do the 2 compare as far as that goes?

All thoughts appreciated fellow tuggers.

....also, someone said that the Discovery Beach clientele demographics skews a bit older than ROCB. I have a family of 6 (4 well behaved kids aged 10-15). We would most likely be using the resort during the kids summer vacation. Would Discovery Beach be a good choice??

I used to own at both. If you are focused on the Beach experience, Discovery Beach is your better bet. All the units are water front, its smaller and easier access. The Resort on Cocoa Beach is larger and has more amenities, but its beach access is not quite as good and its more crowded. I have sold both, because we moved, but if I had to do it again, I would go with Discovery Beach for the reasons stated.

3. The configuration of ROCB is a letter L but flipped around on the diagonal. One side faces the ocean (oceanfront), one side faces north (ocean view). The lobby on both check-in days is quite hectic. I don't know what time the action starts (we are never there early enough to matter) but people with OV reservations are trying to get as close to the beach as possible, thereby increasing the amount of the view in ocean view. People with both OF and OV reservations are trying to get units as high as possible. When we were there in May, there were people hanging out in the lobby at 7 AM.

ROCB has only two bedroom, two bath units, some with double balconies, some with a single balcony. Discovery Beach has one, two, and three bedroom units.

Edit: For the most part, you don't need to know which unit numbers have double balconies. When you check in, if both types are available, you'll get a choice.

ROCB is strictly first-come, first-served. Example: We checked in this afternoon about 3:15 for two weeks in an oceanfront unit. We got the last OF unit, on the 2nd floor. Great view of palm trees and other greenery but not a peek at the ocean.

Photos attached show views from the balcony, 2nd floor the first week, 7th floor the second week. The front desk told us to be ready to move Saturday AM so we had things ready to go. Took us fifteen minutes to vacate the 2nd floor unit and move everything to the 7th floor.

Somehow, I managed to lose a Navy FCU VISA card while there. I put a freeze on it and opened another credit account with Navy Fed online. Took three minutes to get the approval with a limit of $30,000. Got a call this afternoon from Mindy at the front desk. One of the housekeepers found the card. Mindy's going to mail it.

The resort had two units for sale -- an ocean view unit for about $2,500 and an oceanfront unit for $4,900. This is NOT the best place for a deal.

Look for weeks for sale in the usual places -- eBay, RedWeek.com, TUG. Be patient.

I have toured RCOB but not stayed. I have frequently stayed at Discovery and recommend. All Discovery rooms face ocean. Trading into Discovery is difficult as limited availability. The Cocoa Beach area is interesting and there are numerous restaurant choices. Both would probably provide an excellent vacation but my guess is the smaller Discovery Beach is the better location with better pool & exercise room availability.

I debated back and forth between purchasing Discovery or ROCB, I could have purchased Discovery for between $650 and $950 on offerings on Ebay. I was ablet to get a good deal on an OceanFront Unit with A-Pool floating weeks and went with ROCB. My cousin lives in Merritt Island and visited both resorts and took pictures and videos and she said she got a happier vibe at ROCB.
