If we fly into BTV at 11PM this summer, what is best/safest way to get from BTV airport to Smuggs that late at night?
Also, if we flew to Manchester, NH instead (daytime), how is the drive? We have a child who tends to get carsick--is this way through the mountains with lots of turns? thanks, Elaine

follow route 15 all the way...

..works for us and we are doing it late at night in winter after 24 hours travelling (3 flights, from UK!)

smuggs website has detials of various route choices:-
http://www.smuggs.com/pages/summer/directions.php

our preferred route from burlington airport to smuggs is very simple:
leave airport on Route 2. Go west on Route 2 to intersection with I89. Go north on I89 to next junction. Leave I89 and take Route 15 east, through essex junction, jericho and cambridge to Jeffersonville. Take Route 108 South through Jefferson village Main Street to Smuggs. Resort is on left hand side about 6 miles along Route 108 - opposite Stella Notte restaurant and just past a couple of ski rental shops on the left.

Roads are narrow, but generally well lit and little traffic late at night. Only trcky bit is the big 5-way intersection in Essex Junction on Rte15. There are traffic lights but the sign-posting isn't very clear - you want to go almost-straight-but-a-bit-left to stay on route 15.

They will come get you if you want:

From the Smuggs website:

Ground transportation to Smugglers' is available via convenient van shuttle service from the Burlington International Airport and Essex Junction Amtrak Station.

Shuttle service must be confirmed at least 48 hours in advance of your scheduled arrival time.
$45 per adult each way, one child (17 & under) per paying adult is free. Each additional child is $35 each way. Two-person minimum fare. Contact Smugglers’ Notch Reservations office at: 1-800-419-4615 or 802-644-8851 ext. 1389.

But this would leave them without transport whilst at the resort because the only place to pick up a rental car is in Burlington (either at the airport or downtown).

In the winter this may be OK (we often do this as we tend to ski every day), but in the summer most people want to explore the surrounding area, and many activities arranged by Smuggs are off-site and you need your own transport to get to them.
