Anyone have it? What do you think of it?

Anyone have it? What do you think of it?

Had it from Time Warner for about 3 years. Been very satisfied with quality of service & price.

I have it through Cablevision. I've had it for about 2 years now, and we have not had any problems. Just remember the phone is out when there's no power. We use cell's primarily anyway.

If you have a cell phone you have digital phone service. However, it sounds like you are referring to "internet phones" (or cable phones). I've had one for more than a year and it's fantastic. The only problem occurs when the cable or power goes out. In those situations I use the cell phone.

I have Vonage; no problems. Plus, when cable or power goes out, phone calls are automatically routed to my cell phone.

Vonage

I also have Vonage and like it a lot.

It is interesting that you say when power is out, the phone doesn't work, which is what I would expect. The comcast rep said a backup battery had 3-hours talk time or 8 hours standby.

If the power goes out and the cable goes out, no phone service, even if your phone has a battery backup. You still have your cable modem, etc, that needs power and the cable system itself needs power. You could get a UPS for your cable modem, but it really won't make that much of a difference, unless the cable system somehow has power, but the power grid to your home goes down.

With the system that Steve uses, calls will get re-routed to his cell phone if/when any part of that system is down. (Vonage isn't the only one that can do that.)

I'm not sure what the Comcast rep meant.

I've had it since June and the change was seemless. As far as I can tell, no change has been made.....no change in call quality, haven't had my power go out since I switched over.

Anyone want to take bets on when my power goes out next? I'd suggest taking the "under" :D

Then why not just use your cell 100% of the time?

George

It's my business number. I have an associated fax number for free. When I travel if I check into a hotel that has broadband I can bring unit along and it operates as if I were still in my office, even if I'm out of the country.

When someone leaves a voice mail message I get an e-mail copy of the voice message as a .wav file. That's a great help because that way I get notified right away if I have a voice mail message. Or if I'm in a location where I don't have cell phone coverage, I can aceess my voice-mail as long as I can find a plce to get on line. If it's an important project related matter I save the .wav file in my project files.

I love my digital phone. If I could get rid of my cell phone I would. My cell phone is always going in & out and not as clear as a digital phone. shaggy

I use digital from Comcast and a cool video phone from ACN with unlimited long distance. I am canceling my digital phone and staying with the video phone only ,since it only costs $29.99 a month. However, with either one if the power is out, no phone, so I will have my cell phone as a back up.

Glad to hear you like ACN. That is one company we may look at.

Just curious, what is Time Warner's "regular" charge for Digital Phones per month. One of the responders above said they used TW. We have TW cable for internet and TV and we received an email today saying digital phone service will soon happen here and the first 6 months was going to cost $19.95 (plus fees and taxes) for 6 months of unlimited minutes in the lower 48 and then it reverts to the regular price, but they of course don't tell you what the regular price is.
