Just had a call from MVC San Diego and he referenced a new program called Wing Span. Supposedly a program for owners to extend their points usage window in case they need to save points for a BIG vacation.
It’s probably the first time I’ve been caught off guard with an owners update call. We just did an update and this is going to be a short trip. My wife would kill me if I signed up just to hear another sales presentation for something we don’t need and aren’t interested in.
Anyone else heard of this or had it brought up as a reason to attend an update?

My guess:

Buy more points,
Attain higher ownership level.
Get longer banking period.

good grief, they need to lay off a few marketing people, there's far tooo much creativity going into dressing up the same old thing. No wonder the need to keep increasing the retail price of club points

And I just got another call with another offer from a different person.
First offer was $200 or 30,000 BonVoy points. 30 minutes later it’s $300 or 50,000 BonVoy points.

Wing Span is sales code for this….. they want you to be the fish!!

Having some time to think about this, I suspect our names ended up on two lists. One as just MVC owners with no status, the other listing our Chairman status. Perhaps the first caller thought we might need the 2 year point save window for chairman or 1.5 year window for Presidents level. I really can’t imagine needing greater than a 2 year window to save points.

There is no option to save greater than 2 years anyway. They can't sell you a product that does not exist.

That’s what confused me at first, you can’t save greater than 2 years and there isn’t a program out there that’s different…….unless some creative sales type had the idea of depositing points in II and then using E-Plus or the extend your deposit option, but that doesn’t sell additional points. I’m pretty sure he thought he could upgraded out ownership level to Presidential or Chairman’s without realizing exactly where we stood with the program

Or they change it which they could do.

We arrived yesterday and, of course had to stop for our welcome packet. Once again he insisted there is a program to extend your point greater than two years and very few properties were allowed to market it. We still didn’t bite.

Having thought it through he is right, you CSN extend your points life past 2 years. I should have seen it from the beginning. If you convert your Abound Points to BonVoy Points, I believe that would about do it.

You could also extend somewhat by using Interval.

True, but these body snatchers have been VERY focused on BonVoy points when they’ve spoken to us, so I’m thinking they’re selling the idea to buy more points and convert what you don’t use to BonVoy points and keep them forever as you watch them continually be devalued by Marriott.

$300 would get me to attend a 60min "update". Now, the wife would not concur.

I personally don’t object to the updates, depending on the company. Hilton, for example, won’t get me into their sales gallery but maybe once every 5 to 7 years. I just haven’t had a good experience and they’re cheap with their offers to attend.

The wife, she can’t stand them. I can get her to go maybe once every couple of years. $300 is about the minimum it takes to get us off the couch these days. Since we just did an update two months ago, even the offer of $300 wasn’t enough.

Honestly, I go if there might be something new to learn, and lately there hasn’t been a lot of new stuff to talk about.

It must be San Diego they gave me the wingspan crap this morning.

At least it’s unique. I still didn’t go but it wasn’t the same old thing.

......and the high bidder wins!

.
If another call comes in say for $600 or 70,000 Bonvoy'd points, then we know Marriott is getting real desperate - not too much of a surprise given how consumers are pulling back spend

Marriott Rewards was changed to Bonvoy because "being Bonvoy'd" has a nicer tone to it . Anyways, you are so right, the hotel points are losing value at a very fast clip. We don't see ourselves exchanging our week to reward points any more. Haven't done so in years, but the last time we did, it was to get a Hotel/Air/Car travel package, which in classic Marriott style, has been Bonvoy'd 6 feet under.
