Destination Escapes - questions on how it works?

Can you book one of these for a family member and put their name on it if not travelling with them? How do you actually book it by calling owner services? Is the availability usually the same as what's on the list or less when you actually call? Can you cancel and points be returned?

Not sure, but regular point reservations you can so don't see why not. ETA:
Can Marriott Vacation Club Destinations Escapes reservations be gifted?
Yes. Marriott Vacation Club Destination Escapes may be gifted to friends and family

I'm sure they get reserved. The one I wanted was available and it's a phenomenal deal, so why not try?

Can Marriott Vacation Club Destinations Escapes reservations be cancelled?
Yes. However, Vacation Club Points will be placed in a "holding account." Club Points in a "holding account" can only be used to confirm reservations within 60 days of arrival date.

I'm sure they get reserved. The one I wanted was available and it's a phenomenal deal, so why not try?
