I have a 2020 owner’s week reservation at MKO for December 2020 that I am contemplating whether to deposit with Interval. Never having dealt with Interval in the past, I was wondering if I will be able to reserve a week back at MKO at a later date in 2022 and what are my chances of obtaining such a reservation. Basically what does my deposit give me in return with Interval? The reservation was a 2 bedroom ocean view penthouse. Thanks.

You don’t make reservations on II, it’s exchanging based on others depositing their units.
Once you deposit your week into interval you can place a request for the exchange you would like and you can also search manually too even while the request is in place. There are video tutorials in the general discussion section of the community to show you how to do this yourself or you can have II set up the request for you.
If place your request early, even before the units can be reserved on MVC and deposited (13 months +) you should be in good position to receive your requested exchange if/ when a unit is deposited. But it just comes down to someone else depositing the unit you want. You can’t request views.
Be sure to deposit more that 60 days from your check in date to avoid flexchange restrictions.

I think your chances of getting a 2BR MKO exchange in 2022 are good but you will likely be downgraded in view and unit type. You probably could lock off and make two deposits. The 1 BR would likely match to a 2BR request (made early especially if not in super high season) but you would have to pay an upgrade fee. The studio side would probably match to a 1 BR (with upgrade fee) or studio either at MKO or somewhere else.

If you decide to deposit, call Marriott to pay the lock-off fee and deposit the 1br and the studio. Then you have two units with which to trade.
Ask them to deposit to II.
In II, set up an ongoing search for the resort(s) and date(s) you want. Be patient, you will match, but it may take some time, as you are very early for 2022.
You may try for two units for the same week, one unit for consecutive weeks, or two completely different resorts and dates.

If it's enrolled you already have an II account, otherwise you'll need to set up one which may take a week or 2. I agree on locking off, there will be a fee if not enrolled, no fee is it is. Then put in an ongoing search for the unit size you need for 2022. Your chances of getting a week through II are very good if you do it this way other than week 51/52 but as noted, you will likely not get the same unit type or view as II does not recognize view or the PH parameters. You'll also have an exchange priority which might affect unit assignment. I'd use the 1BR for your replacement HI week then figure out what to do with the studio as well for possibly another week there or somewhere else as HudsHut mentioned also.

Remember, if you are going to lock off the unit, you need to have not booked a dedicated two bedroom, but rather a lock off one. I prefer Hale Kona, so to increase my chances of getting that tower, I book lock off units (plus I like the extra little fridge for drinks). If you booked a dedicated two bedroom and want to go that route, see if you can change (if one is available).

II gives you basically the same value on your deposit even when one is a mountain view and one is a ocean view penthouse unit. BUT II will give you great value for depositing a MKO week Maybe you can even trade into one of the other Hawaii resorts

Thank you all for the information. My ownership is a 2 bedroom ocean view penthouse with lockout. Here are a few more questions that I need clarified.
1) By depositing my reservation as 2 units versus depositing it as 1 unit, does this lessen the chance that I will get a 2 bedroom exchange?
2) If I deposit it as a 1 bedroom unit, do I still make the request as a 2 bedroom? and with the studio as a 1 bedroom request?
3) Basically, are you people saying that I could end up with 2 weeks at MKO for my 1 week deposit?
4) When someone deposits a week into Interval at MKO and several members have placed a request, what criteria is used to determine who obtains their exchange? Does my MKO deposit have any higher priority?
Thanks

  1. Yes but likely not very much. Realistically it likely won't make any difference. It'll cost you an extra $100 for the upgrade from a 1 BR but you'll have the studio to exchange as well.
  2. Yes you can request anything currently. Upgrade fee for the studio will be $200. Personally I'd make both as a 2 BR if you need a 2 BR and if you get the 2 BR with the studio likely look to retrade the 1 BR if you don't need 2 units. If you don't need a 2 BR, the 1 BR will likely be an easier trade though.
  3. Yes, potentially two units, even two 2 BR. If not enrolled you may want to purchase ePlus for both deposits and even keep your eyes open for a 3 BR.
  4. II keeps their specific information internally but it's basically a trade power order not a first come/first served system. Trade power is determined by the demand of the week & resort, unit size and lead time to the unit when deposited. MKO is not a difficult trade in your situation for the 1 BR to a 2 BR other than week 51/52 assuming you have some flexibility and are looking well in advance. Depositing by 10 months out and looking a year or more out is best.

I know this is a super old thread but how can you deposit a week that doesn’t have a reservation #. So for example we own gold season at Aruba surf club, the earliest I can get a reservation for May2025 is may 2024, unless I lock off then I think I can reserve j. April 2024.
Can someone explain/link the video?
Thanks

People are setting up an OGS with an already deposited week. So if I deposited a 2024 week in 2023, right now I could place an exchange request for any time through January 2026. Well before those units start getting deposited.

Can someone explain/link the video?

In your II account on the website, go to community, the document library (left side), then scroll down to find the 101 guide for exchanging. There is also a guide for explaining Travel Demand Index
Here is the link to video tutorials in your II account. Its under community and then general discussions

Does anyone know if I can place two OGS for the same week, i.e with different locations and criteria?
Yes, you can add as many areas as you want with one week, on the same request. I will add Maui in Feb-Mar, Disney for October-December, Palm Desert for New Year's, all on one search. Just keep adding areas and dates to that search.

I want to be able to vary the request criteria which is why I wondered about two separate searches. We are using a studio but there is one place where I wouldn't want to go unless I could pay for the up-charge for the 1 bdrm. Know the odds are low but we have gotten them before.

You can only have one search set-up per unit that you are depositing with. You can't apply the 1-bed request criteria to only 1 resort and not to the rest on the list.
You could put it in and ensure that you check daily, so if something you don't want matches, you can call II to cancel it and carry on the request.
Or you could limit your request and search manually for the 1-bed that you would accept.
