So I am currently at the Williamsburg resort and I normally don't sit through the presentations when staying with family but decided to get some free money and use it to see what they might offer.

I got my two weeks from resale for basically "free". They are both summer weeks. The sales back and forth happened. First they said they don't offer conversions to resales ... Than the "corporate" offer came and they offered to change over my two weeks to points weeks.

Now I admit I am not as familiar with the points world than the weeks as obviously weeks are easier. You just use what you got or you rent or deposit for value.

I have seen people in here talk about how just getting a new deed with points is normally the best idea but I am curious about long term maintenance add-ons.

The last offer I had was for like $5k give or take some things and they would convert my weeks into two points weeks with the "plus" addon. Both these weeks would net me 130k points a year so 260k points and 4 "bonus" weeks a year. Same maintenance fees.

I am unsure what this actually translates to vs the 50 TPU I get now with RCI weeks.

I am curious if this was actually a good value or not after I said no enough. I did that math and if I had gotten a new deed I would be spending that same cost in maintenance within 5 or so years.

Thoughts on this would be great.

You can’t use a week that’s enrolled in RCI Points in any other exchange system. That would mean you couldn’t use Interval or the smaller ones like SFX, even if it were a dual-affiliated resort like Colonies or VV Williamsburg. Plus, you would be paying RCI for the privilege of restricting your use to RCI, which seems a poor deal to me.

There are some advantages to a points-enrolled week, but I don’t value them more than the costs.

If you can exchange the week with II, I would do that and saying no to any conversion of your weeks to RCI Points should be an easy "NO." You already get 50 TPU's for your week.

Bonus weeks are junk.

What do you own, two four-bedroom weeks?

How many weeks of vacation do you get out of those TPUs now?

You may be able to get a few more weeks with points, but how much do you travel?

I have 2 weeks both 4 beds. But I deposit 2 X 2BR because RCI is weird. I can get 28 units for the 4br or 25 for each 2br.

I just got these two week last year so tbh I am not sure yet how much we might travel right now. I have looked and there's 3 point sales all the time. So in theory if I was open to paying those exchange fees I could vacation a lot of location wasn't the biggest concern.

I was really just trying to see if the value was worth it to go-to points but people don't like the points on here it seems. Heh

I would interpret it as folks on TUG are more likely to look at the costs and benefits as a whole and the ones that responded don’t think the added benefits of RCI Points are worth the cost you mentioned of $5K combined with the loss of access to II. By themselves, RCI Points are decent, but for me as a Wyndham owner with PlusPartners, I already get equivalent benefits by other means, so it’s an easy decision for me.

I own in points and it works for me. However, that is how I started my ownership.

The issue is paying the developer to convert when you can get points weeks for free (you would have to pay the maintenance fees, of course)

There are benefits to owning in weeks with Vacation Villages, such as cheaper internal exchanges. I don't get them in points.

There is a bit more inventory that shows up in points, but likely 90% of my exchanges have been for weeks.

Also, it rarely makes sense to book a timeshare for less than a week because of the extra cleaning fees.

If you are a heavy traveler, you might find some benefit in also having points, but I would suggest just picking up another week in points.

As for Interval, I now own two timeshares so I would have access to both systems. I like having access to the DVC, Marriott and Hyatt properties.

So I am currently at the Williamsburg resort .....

There are three Vacation Village resorts in Williamsburg. Out of curiosity, which one are you discussing in this thread?
