We will be staying at Villa del Palmar Flamingos for 2 weeks. We have been to Bucerias many times but have never gone further north. Is it worth going for a day to Punta Mita or to Sayulita? If so, what is the best way to get there without a car--- bus, taxi, Uber, other? Once there, how much walking will we need to do to find restaurants, galleries or other shops?

Any other suggestions?

We will be in PV next month and as it turns out we have some credit from 'Tours By Locals'. We enjoy markets, and cooking classes (for 2-to 6 people). Not knowing the availability in Nuevo and vicinity, I typed 'Nuevo Vallarta day trips' into the search window in Bing/Google and there were plenty of choices, including self-guided and 'things to do in. . .'

Give this a look and see if anything catches your eye. We are not 'beachy' people, so I couldn't deal with two weeks of beach time, though I know lots of TUGgers feel that this is why you head for tropical sand.

Jim, thank you for the link. It looks like there are many tour options. We will consider a guided tour, but we still look forward to any suggestions for other ways to visit towns in the area north of Flamingos and Bucerias.

We did a day trip to Sayulita and really enjoyed it. My son and I rented surfboards and spent a few hours in the perfect break. It's a cute little surf town . It reminds me of Leaucadia here in San Diego.

The farmers market in La Cruz is kind of fun. There is the main open air fish market and on certain days a farmers market. At the other end of the beach area is a good swimming area with restaurants. I like the Baja shrimp taco. You can hire a pants here.

A short distance from La Cruz is the hidden beach. Its a hike down a steep hill . At the bottom is a beach with trees and cliffs on each side of the beach. This is a really good swimming hole.

Punta Mita has better surfing than Salulita, imo. The restaurants are good but a few pesos more. The marina here is close to the ecological areas and good fishing. At low tide there are oyster collectors that will sell fresh out of the bay oysters.

Between Punta Mita and Say units is the Monkey Mountain hike which is known for sunsets.

Sayulita has its charms but is overcrowded. Very overcrowded. We still go here to hire Pacific Ocean pangas to catch dorado.

San Pancho otherwise known as San Francisco is the next ocean front town and is a good place to get a beach taco.

We like Lo de Marcos which is the next town going north. There is one beach bar restaurant and plenty of beach.

Guyabitos is a bit farther north and is a popular Mexican tourist destination. In the winter its mostly gringos. Plenty of things to do here.
