Headed to Kauia, staying at the Beach Lagoons with my family (10 of us). I'm the owner of the points, and they shockingly want me to go to a VIP owners update! (I know what this is...I also bought resale so not sure why they want me to go...), but they are offering day passes to the other resort. We planned on going to Poipu beach to see the turtles. She said having a day pass to the resort makes it much easier to see the turtles and you can use their resort for the day of the presentaiton. I would get another incentive, but I'm wondering if its just as easy to go to Poipu beach without having to use the resort?

Thanks for any help!

We like Waiohai a lot. It may be nice to be able to use the pool -- it's nice, but really isn't anything all that spectacular. Personally, I wouldn't consider day passes to be much of an incentive. If the other incentives are good enough, it would probably make things more enjoyable for the rest of your party to have beach chairs and access to the pool.

We own at and love Waiohai. But a day pass certainly doesn’t make it easier to see the turtles. It just means that you and yours can use the pools in addition to ‘only’ enjoying the beach, ocean, and reef.

Thank you! Yeah that was just an 'added' incentive. They would give me another incentive along with that.

Thanks for input!

Thank you!

She mentioned its a great place to snorkel! Does the resort have any snorkel gear? Is there a great place to see the turtles near the resort if we went up there?

Waiohai is on the southern most point of Kauai, so you will be driving "down" there. It's a nice resort, but the pools are just standard, and I certainly wouldn't pay for a day pass.

However, the resort is right next to FREE Poipu Beach, which is a great shallow & protected place for kids to swim, with a nice park, but often crowded. But, I don't believe that you can see turtles there any more than anywhere else. There is lots of shade, and it's a nice place to pack a picnic lunch and your beach chairs and make a day of it.

The pool shack charges an arm and a leg to rent snorkel gear - try one of these places instead:

Yes it’s a great place to snorkel and we always rent the gear we haven’t brought (usually just fins) at Snorkel Bob in nearby Koloa. And while we often see turtles that’s up to them…but we always see fish!

We will be at Kauai Beach Club later this year, I will have to see if we can score day passes to Waiohai. I'd be willing to take a tour to do it. We actually did this back in 2013 when we stayed at Kalanipu'u, but it rained. So all we got was the Bonvoy points.

@dioxide45 we got back from there two weeks ago. Everything was open including Kukui's, which had been closed, and there were no signs of construction. Lovely as always.

We went from there to Waiohai which also had everything open and was lovely as always. I agree that the pools are nothing special but also second @DeniseM's comment about the public beach next door. Very crowded on the w/e's but not on the weekdays and a short walk to Brennecke's for a great lunch or dinner (they take reservations and if a w/e one is a nice thing to have).
