Thanks to all of you amazing people on TUG. I took some advice on here, passed on paying thousands of dollars for a resale deal, and recently signed paperwork for my first 200K points at no cost through Timeshare Nation. I really appreciate all of the great advice. Can’t wait for the contract to fully transfer over

I actually want about 400-600k points. Would it make sense to purchase a Wyndham deeded contract as well? Or do I need to stick with CWA? How would combining points work?

Congratulations! It really depends on where you want to go and how far in advance you want/can plan. If there are one or two resorts you want to visit every year AND the mf’s for those resorts are cheaper than CWA, then it would make sense to buy deeded contracts for those. If you want more options for your travels and/or you want ARP at more resorts, then CWA might be a better option for you.

It seems like you’re just getting into the timeshare life so you might want to hold what you have for 2-3 years and see how you use your points and what you want to do that you aren’t able to do with your initial purchase. That’s how we approached it. We made our initial purchase of 225k deeded points plus 225k bonus points in 2014 at Panama City Beach getting us to temporary silver VIP. We could tell this is what we needed at a minimum so in 2015, we purchased an additional 225k CWA and converted our PCB points to CWA. This year, we decided that we need more points to travel the way we want but we didn’t want to pay developer prices and it wasn’t necessary to purchase CWA. We found 2 deeded contracts on TUG that would give us the additional points that we wanted and we only had to pay closing costs and Wyndham’s transfer fee. We’re watching for the points to be added to our account every day and looking forward to more travel in 2020. Good luck and enjoy your timeshare experience!

So let’s say for example that I went ahead and purchased an additional 200K deeded. If I wanted to book a place that needed 300K, could I use 200k of the CWA and combine it with 100K of the deeded? Or do I need them all to be CWA?

Congrats! I think 400-500K points is a very nice spot to be in. Timeshare nation currently has a National Harbor deed for free 252K points. Whoever gets it will be very lucky! I would have asked myself but I already own too many points.

As for CWA vs Deed I prefer deed because the maintenance fees can be much lower. Besides I don’t need ARP or haven’t had a need for it yet. Now, if you plan your vacations 10-13 months in advance, then yes, CWA is for you. If not, then I don’t see why you would want to pay more for the privilege.

As for combining points, for ARP they would all need to be CWA. At 10 months, points are points and you can use all your points to book your reservation. It doesn’t matter if they’re CWA or not.

Today, you can combine them. That is subject to change at Wyndham’s discretion and some believe it will happen as soon as next year when the new VIP levels are implemented. There has been no announcement of that at this time.

I try to keep up with new developments but I‘m pretty sure this is the first I remember reading that Wyndham may be considering no longer allowing CWA and deeded contracts to be combined for reservations inside 10 months. This would be an immense change if true. Can you point me to a thread?

I saw that one. That’s the property that had me wondering how combining points works. Thanks for your insight

I inquired but somebody already acquired them earlier today.
Would it be possible to bank my 200k points for a few years, let’s say 3, and then use all 600 to reserve 13 mo out for a unit that costs 600?

You can deposit current use year points forward up to 2 years in the future. There are restrictions on when this can be done, the most restrictive is within 3 months of the use year begin date. So, you can deposit forward and use points in the 3rd year.

By doing so, ARP use of those points is forfeited. i.e the ability to reserve 13 months out. You are restricted to the 10 mth out period to reserve in advance or a lesser time.

You’re absolutely correct. I was speaking of ARP and that wasn’t the question. Points are points inside 10 months. I deleted the post since it contained incorrect information.
