I have been a TUG member for several months now and posted two ads to sell and rent my timeshare but no interest yet. I also read the many articles on giving away timeshares.

Does anyone have a current list of organizations who will accept timeshares?

I plan to call the resort today to ask if they will take back.

Any suggestions from the TUG members will be helpful. Can anyone recommend an organization who will help members with this process? Has anyone heard of Newton Group Transfers?

Looking forward to your reply for assistance.

Thanks,
Sunil

Stop!

There are no organizations that will make your timeshare disapear.

There is a thread on this site that disscusses the DRI take-back or buy-back: http://tugbbs.com/forums/showthread.php?t=224859&highlight=diamond+accepting

Read all of it, but also the last page(s) contains info on possible buy-back depending on resort etc....

Hope this helps.

Remember: Charities do not take worthless timeshares, and, if they want money up-front/before closing--it's a scam.

One company that will make your timeshare disappear is called Donate For A Cause.

If they accept your TS you will pay a large fee, and be careful about trying to deduct you "donation."

They will do what you pay them to do though.

The biggest problem I see with people not being able to rid themselves of a TS is an unrealistic sale price. You have to add incentives to give most of them away in today's Timeshare World.

as mentioned in our email reply...you have not yet attempted to give yours away...in fact in your ads you are asking thousands of dollars for timeshares that are indeed given away for free every day! This is indeed the reason noone has been interested in your ads currently posted.

also as mentioned above (and weeks ago here on TUG and in the newsletter) DRI is currently taking intervals back from owners...so you could give it back to DRI for $250 dollars within a month.

the first step in giving away your timeshare, is actually listing it for $1 or utilizing the DRI deedback solution, not sure why you are even entertaining an upfront fee company that will charge you thousands to do something you can do for little to no cost on your own.

John is absolutely correct. DFC is a real organization and not a scam. They have donated money to charities. Their model is not free however....there are many threads on this BBS that discuss the pros/cons of DFC (and others). Consider this, many organizations recognize the companies trying to 'offload' timeshares and will block the sale/deed transfer.

Question about actual unit for sale deleted. Providing such info in this forum would be advertising and that's not allowed in this forum. Contact OP by private messaging.

TB's post addresses the issue fully.

On a side note: John, I thought the current TUG view of DFC was less than favorable based on costs and promises of 'above market value' tax write-offs (a big IRS no-no). Has that changed in the last year or so?

thanks.

To be clear: I'm not interested in buying, just wanted to provide feedback. Wondered why I didn't see the 'bargain' listing. Brian's post clarifies that fully.

Thanks.

Updated my listing on TUG to give away for free

Thanks for the prompt replies! Just changed my listing to give my points away for free.

Sunil

By all means try to give it away first. I think Diamond points have a lot of resale restrictions (the biggest being no RCI or II for resale trust points owners). Diamond periodically has give backs. They have been doing it a few months now. They will stop and it will be a year or two before they do it again - if it is like the last several times they made this offer. It may cost a few hundred. They may want to take any reserved and unreserved unused points you have left for this year. It still is probably going to be the easiest and surest way to get rid of paid off up to date DRI accounts. Get on it now before the opportunity is lost for this year.

Best of luck.

No, that hasn't changed if you're talking about the inflated Fair market Value. Some here on TUG will acknowledge that DFC will take over ownership and sign the deed for it --- for a hefty price. But at least DFC will do what it says it will do. So if one is willing to pay the hefty "service charge", then DFC might be a viable way of quickly and easily relieving oneself of ownership.

The main mantra here, however, is that, if one is willing to do a little work and be patient, he can accomplish the same thing for thousands of dollars less.

Got it and agreed! Thanks

To second what LannyPC said, no, the attitude here has not changed. I would never consider using them my self, I worked my butt off giving some of mine away. But, in all fairness, the question was asked and DFC is an option that will work. Some folks would rather pay someone else to do what they could do themselves.
