Crazy question: considering spending some money with HGV on our next trip

We have two HVC accounts. One is a developer points we purchased from Diamonds almost 15 years ago. The other is resale points we purchased before the Hilton buy out. We’re reasonably happy with both and use all the points every year. That said, it would be nice to have some additional flexibility and selection. So, we’re considering going to an update (haven’t been in over a decade) and seeing what it would take to combine the accounts and get access to the HGVC resorts. Does anybody have any recent experience with this?

We don’t want more points but would make a smallish purchase to gain this flexibility, if the price was reasonable. Does anybody know what is the smallest increment they will sell and what price per point we can negotiate down to?

Finally, I’d prefer to just skip the presentation. So, here’s the crazy question. Does anybody know of a sales person who is a straight shooter and will just have a phone, or better yet email, conversation to present the options?

When you say resale points, do you mean DRI points or a HGVC deed with the associated points?

If you want access to HGVC, I would buy a decent HGVC deed. That would give you full access to the booking windows. If you pay to join The Club with HGV Max, then you only get 6 month access to HGVC and that is leftovers. Harder to book locations will be booked out.

My understanding of how the HVC side of things work is that in order to bring resale points into The Club you have to purchase at least as many retail points. If you can already get to the HGVC resorts using DeX, have you found any that you really want to go to, bearing in mind that 6 month access winds up being after HGVC owners have booked what they want.

Buying an HGVC deed would give me access to those properties but I suspect all the existing points I have would still have the same restrictions, correct?

So, I guess I should have been more clear. I’d like to access HGVC properties using the points I already own (plus whatever I buy). And, I want to consolidate, not have more accounts to juggle. If I just want to use the property I can book it through Expedia in most cases.

which sites specifically? For some of them, LV, Orlando, even beach resorts in the off-season, the Max booking window may be good enough. For others, maybe not. If you have kids in school (I guess maybe not?), the Max window probably disappoints you. Otoh, if you have no kids & are a little bit "different" in how/where you travel, the idea of "leftovers" probably overstates it.
Youre in WA? If Hawaii is a target, I think you could use a lot of points on well worthwhile bookings you could get at 6 months. But I am not in Max, so idk if there is some other restrictive "gotya" on top with Max.

great question. If only the world (and corporate strategies) were so WIN-WIN straight-fwd.

Agreed that you would have multiple accounts. The retail DRI points are expensive though so you pay more to clean it up but maybe in the long run it would be better.

I guess we’ll probably go to the sales presentation, I mean arm twisting ceremony, sorry, owner update, and see what options they present. Perhaps we can get a nice dinner out of them at least. What is the best price per point we could negotiate down to?

see what options they present.
The options that you are presented will be based on what you tell them at the beginning. But what they present doesn't mean that it will solve whatever you are seeking.
