COVID - It was bound to happen

We were surprised that once we finished our ten day quarantine, no one cared whether or not we still tested positive. Cliff tested negative after about a week, on day eleven I was still positive but the reaction from the health office was a resounding “meh”. The difference may have been he took Paxlovid and I didn’t. And the reason for that was he first tested positive early on a Friday and the telemedicine doctor prescribed it for him. I didn’t test positive until Friday night and didn’t want to deal with unknown doctors at urgent care. Cliff stopped taking his cough pills after a couple days (never encountered pills for cough before), so I finished those as well as his cough syrup (dispensed in individual cups which we’d also never seen before).

Simple. It's because the science has proven that one is no longer contagious after that time period, so why should anyone care???

Our local hospital is completely open. No masks, so temp taking etc. before visiting. So yes, no one cares any more.

Almost nobody cares.

I still have zero interest in joining that club. And I still mask up in public. It's obviously working. Because I haven't had so much as a sniffle since this started. Meanwhile, one of my in-laws in Germany still can't smell anything. And she got it late last year. She's lost all interest in food. And she has to force calories down her throat so she doesn't waste away. That is what I worry about -- not being a mortality statistic, being a long-haul sufferer. (Although there are 1.16 million of my fellow countrymen who ended up statistics. I'm sure at least a few people care about that.)
