Could this be true?

I made an exchange into Cypress Harbour for June 2012 with my one-bedroom BeachPlace Tower unit that was going to expire Nov. 27, 2012. Alas, I will not be able to use the Cypress Harbour unit so I must re-deposit it. I understand I lose the exhange fee. :(

However, when I went to re-deposit it, I was told by II that I could re-deposit it as late as 60 days before the reservation at Cypress Harbour which was June 23, 2012. If I re-deposit the week by calling them April 10, 2012, I would get a replacement week (II claims with the same trading power as if I called today to re-deposit) that would expire April 10, 2013! I explained that the original week that I deposited was going to expire Nov 2012, so how could the replacement week expire April 2013? She said that replacement weeks expire 1 year from the time you receive them no matter when the original week you had originally deposited expired. Since Easter is Mar. 31, 2013, I could then trade the replacement week for a week during Easter break.

Could this be true?

Thanks for your advice.

Sounds true. They get paid twice (two exchange fees), so they have an incentive here too.

Just wanted to add that a replacement week carries no Marriott preference. This may or may not be a big deal to you but in my oppinion the Marriott preference in II has become fairly powerful as of late.

Is that true? My Starwood replacement weeks all carry preference.

The last few times I have asked II reps they have told me no preference for replacement weeks. Maybe they do not know but the last three reps I asked have told me no preference. I've also read many posts from other tuggers confirming this but as a Marriott owner, I would definately like to get the preference back.

My replacement week allowed me to book Marriott weeks still under the preference period.

When I talked to an II rep last week, he said starwood replacement week carries starwood preference and Marriott replacement week carries Marriott preference.
I had to cancel one of my marriott exchange which was made with my GV. This replacement week surely has Marriott priority.

What would you have to pay in exchange fees if you are a Destination Club member?

Let's assume they are all Marriotts. There is no exchange fee for the first exchange. However, would there be a fee for when using the replacement week to exchange back in to a Marriott?

Good to know. I wonder if any other's tuggers agree or disagree, though.

This would be a terrific change if the replacement weeks now keep the Marriott preference. I canceled a Marriott trade two years ago and the replacement week definitely did not have the preference.

Best,

Greg

My experience has been that you do keep priority, for Marriott weeks you may lose some trading power (ex. you deposit a great week at 12 month- your replacement is an average deposit at 61-90 days out) that expires in 12 months from the cancellation, you lose the ability to use it with an XYZ and you lose the discount for you next exchange for Marriott to Marriott or Starwood to Starwood.

I haven't tested this but I also believe you lose the ability to extend the week beyond the nex expiration date and you would not be able to cancel it again. So if you exchange and then have a change of plans no more replacement weeks.

If you do a retrade while you original trade is active, you keep all of the aspects of your original exchange (ability to cancel, XYZ, priority, discounted exchange fee) but would be limited by your original expiration date.

I was told by II that if I re-deposit the trade I cannot use - even if I re-deposit it before it would have expired - I still get a replacement week. I specifically asked whether I would get my week back if I re-deposited it earlier than 60 days out. She said no, the week is the same - a replacement week.

This is right.
I got a replacement week which has a marriott priority (can compare that with a non-marriott weeks), but trading power is not as strong as regular 1 bedroom marriott week (compared to my shadow ridge 1 BR).
