I picked one up today. Not sure it’s going to change my life or anything but it’s fun to have!

What is a Costco fob?

I wonder if it is as ineffective as the optical reader that has been installed and has never been activated at any Costco anywhere I’ve stopped for gas.

Cheers

What a waste, the pump should read the chip in my Costco Visa card like the one at the register.

She lost me when she said I had to log in to my Costco App to activate the fob, like I can remember that password, lol.

My question is why? At our local Costco, I simply tap my card to pay at the pump

My thoughts as well. Just one more thing to carry around (and lose).

Not sure how this is really helpful. I use my Costco Visa, and just tap to card at the pump. No need to insert a membership card first, no payment card needed, and it's fast and easy.

I also see they're only good in California, Washington, and Hawaii. So apparently is a test market.

It should read the chip. You lay the card against the scanner on the gas pump, and it's good to go. At least, mine works that way. ?

We do the same at our local Costco, in Norfolk and Newport News, VA.

Nope, I've tapped my card all over So Cal. And apparently it works in all of the U.S.

I think it is a test thing. I got it at the Issaquah store that has the Costco headquarters in the parking lot.

I’m kind of hoping that eventually it will sync up to a system with auto check out like Amazon has.

I disable to chip reader function. This means in the Store or at the Gasoline Pump I have to insert my card. Less that transmits means less that can be intercepted.

How do you do this? In any event the signal is encrypted just like the chip.

Contactless credit cards are as secure as EMV chip credit cards because they both use the same security standards for transactions. Whether you’re using a tap-to-pay card or inserting your EMV chip card, the sensitive information sent is encrypted. A unique, one-time-use code is created for the transaction instead of sending your name, billing address, CVV code, or zip code. This is called “tokenization.”

Another unnecessary toy that many must have? Something extra to carry........I have enough keys on my key chain/hand sanitizer attached to my purse:ROFLMAO:
