Cost for children to fly?

Last time we took children to Mexico, their airfare was much cheaper than ours. However, as I search for flights to Grand Cayman, prices for 3 and 15 year olds are the same as adults. Does anyone know of any airline that still gives child and/or youth discounts?
Thanks
Karen

I don't think my kids have ever gotten a cheaper flight due to age. The only time was when they were under two and we didn't have to buy them a seat. But since then, same price as us. And more if they're flying unaccompanied with some airlines.

We've never paid less for our children. I'd love to know which, if any, airlines offer a discount.

Seems to me that many wouldn't offer a discount; a seat is a seat and they'll try to get as much $$ for that seat as they can.

I have a hard time imagining a discount. After all, an airplane isn't like a buffet where kids eat less. Whether the child takes up the whole seat or not, you can't sell that seat to someone else. I guess children may be lighter, and so cost the airline less fuel, although these days that may not be true anymore. (Children, along with people in general, are getting much heftier.)

And I don't think anyone want the airlines to start charging by weight! Although I'm sure someone will have the guts to try that eventually.

I just booked seats to Aruba on United. Children do get a discount.

Interesting. We've flown United for years and I never remember a discounted price. Maybe it was just the routes we flew. And now, my kids are too old to qualify anyway.

In the past, we have received a 25% discount on Continental for children under 12 from Houston to Grand Cayman. The tickets we purchased for our trip next year had no discount.

I see child discounts on long-haul overseas flights. Not all internet sites will show it as a child discount though. Often, they'll just show a lower average price for the number of people traveling rather than breaking it down into adult and children's prices. Some sites will show you just the average adult price. For example, orbitz will show an average price of x. For the same set of flights, NWA will show only the adult price of x+200 on the first page, but continue further and you find that the child price is x-250, giving an average of the two tickets of x-25.
