I've wondered for years how they stayed open. BK has been a long time coming. No surprise.

Cool store when I'd go in them, but not a place I even think of when shopping anymore. It's been years.

I loved Pier One and shopped there frequently.

Always sad to see stores close as it also means people lose their jobs.

I used to shop there, or at least wander though pretty regularly. Unfortunately it sort of fell off my radar a few years ago.

The comments from several of us "used to shop there", "loved the store but haven't been there in years" might be another reason they are folding. They may have lost their customer base. I found that as our homes got furnished we didn't need their products as much, or there were other places that had the same type of things and were closer/cheaper/better, etc., etc.

I see a lot of Pier 1 type stuff at Target, Burlington, IKEA, Ross, TJ Maxx, and any of the BB&B-type stores. I don't think people are decorating like they used to, so don't need a lot of the cool stuff Pier 1 was selling. I probably have six different sets of cloth or woven placemats I got at Pier 1, and I know in the last three or four years, I used only one set, one time. They sit in the cupboard taking up space. :)

We tended to go to Cost Plus instead of Pier One as there was one closer to us. Plus they have food items, something Pier One doesn't have.

Formerly: Marriott, ILX, Westin, Diamond, Worldmark. Timeshare free as of 12/24.
At Christmas we knew that stores were closing and stuck our heads in at our local store. Place was packed and there didn't seem to be any closing sales, just lots of regular Xmas/items. We asked, and they said they'd be open all this year as they winnowed down their inventory. But they didn't expect corona virus to shut them down prematurely. Our Pier One is right across the street from Cost Plus. I probably go into CP four times a year, and PO twice.

We have several Pier One stores in our area, even during the Christmas holiday shopping season. IMO, these stores are not busy in our area.

We have not shop or stop in a Pier One store in decades.

I still shop at Cost Plus, or at least did until the SIP. Hopefully things progress and i will be able to go back to in store shopping again.

Breaks my heart to see them go out but not a surprise based on news from the past regarding their stores. I love them but there isn't one convenient to us now. I used to shop in them quite frequently. Kind of another icon passing on and man....it's just sad.
