We have been contacted by Contiuum Travel (based in Colorado) to buy our 10,000 annual point contract we have with Club Caribe and the Villa Group in Mexico. Does anyone have experience with this company since it seems like a scam? Also, how would a scam like this work? They said their 5% fee is paid a closing so they haven’t asked for any money up front (yet). Thank you!! Jeff

It's a scam. First, they called you. Second, they claim no upfront fees but then they'll tell you they suddenly have a buyer and you'll have to pay all sorts of phony taxes before they release the funds....

I tell callers like this to deduct their fees from the sale and send me the proceeds. That's the last you ever hear from them because they know that you know it's a scam!

The Time Traveler summed it up quite well above. The scammers' MO is to get you all excited about this huge sum of money coming your way and make you lose all sense of reason. Then, when you're hooked and are saying to yourself, "Great! What do I have to do to make this deal happen?", the scammers are magically reading your mind and slip in an, "Oh, we just need you to pay this tax that the Mexican Government requires you, the seller, to pay before we release the funds to you."

At this point, most victims are thinking, "No problem! I don't want to let this comparitavely meager fee get in the way of my big pay day. Tell me where to send the funds ASAP so as to make this happen."

But, considering you've been on these boards for nearly five years, you've probably read the many similar horror stories that pop up here on TUG almost weekly outlining how people have either fallen for this scam or how they have been contacted by such scammers (and the lines the scammers use).

Here's a thread from a poster who wanted to help others. He got strung along by the fake paperwork and the glamour of the promised money. He realized too late what was going on. The name of the company does not matter. Same game - different players.

Thank you for sharing. We will not continue the dialogue with Continuum Travel since this is a scam.

Thank you. Very good advice. We realize this is a scam even though they claim they are representing a real travel agency.
