Confirm HGV-to-HHonors Conversions!

Not sure if this is a one time fluke, a product of the HGV system maintenance, or whatever else, but I converted our remaining 2023 ClubPoints to HHonors points yesterday, which were supposed to convert 1:32.

Thankfully I saved the conversion confirmation statement in the HGV app (not sure how to pull it up again once you click out of it). When I logged into HHonors to confirm the deposit, I saw that the points only deposited at a 1:16 ratio.

I called and opened a ticket with the HGV Max help desk and they said the issue should be corrected within the next three business days. The agent didn't seem to be taken aback or perplexed by this issue so I am curious how prolific this problem is.

I don't suspect it will apply to a lot of folks, because 1:16 seems to be the standard conversion ratio for most accounts. By some combination of legacy ownership combined with Max, Premier+, bHC, and whatever other machinations we are able to convert current year bHC points year-round @ 1:32.

Just a heads up for anyone attempting a 1:32 conversion - save/print the confirmation statement and verify in the HHonors account that the all points were deposited correctly.

Was it less than the entire amount? If so, then according to the rules, it is 1:16. I have heard of other Max folks converting less than the entire allotment of current year points for 1:32 but I think that is a system error. Normally, to get the 1:32 you have to convert the entire allotment.

Again, print and save everything.
Yes, you can do that, but if it was a temporary system error and it is clearly stated in the rules that the conversion rate is 1:16 in this case, I don't think one would have a case for them not to correct their transaction.

I see in the rules where it says that. Very strange that they wouldn't have corrected it after all this time. Will report back on how they resolve it. If they don't make good on the remaining points I can't be mad, because the rules clearly say 1:32 for full allotment conversion only.

Here's where the conversion is misleading. On the points conversion page it says the points convert at the "applicable conversion rate," which, to the unsuspecting user, is the rate listed next to the point allotment below that statement, where it shows bHC points converting at 1:32. Before doing the conversion yesterday I had about 6,500 bHC points remaining for 2023, which it also showed as 1:32.

Confirmation statement attached, as well, calculated at 1:32. Of course when the HHonors points deposited they posted at 1:16, which seems to be in accordance with the rules.

Another thing about this is it refers only to following year conversions. It doesn't mention current year conversions. I don't see mention of current year conversions anywhere else in the rules, either.

Unless the second paragraph referring to bHC 1:32 conversion is intended to be read exclusive of the preceding paragraph discussing following year conversions. But even then the bHC paragraph refers to conversion on an "annual basis," implying that the paragraph is meant to be taken in conjunction with the context of the preceding paragraph referring to bi-annual conversions of following year points, not current year points.

I suppose some enterprising legalistic types could have fun with this. Either way, the language in the Club Rules should probably be fleshed out and the fluke on the website needs to be fixed.

I have heard from Max owners at the bHC properties that have had partial amounts get the 1:32 though. Historically, it is only been full allotments and the next year, for all non-elite Legacy bHC owners.

I would send that since it is in the website and pretend that you have not seen the club rules. It seems like Max owners have different rules at times. You are Max, correct?

Most owners can't convert current year points. Only Elite Plus and Premier can and it is free for Elite Premier but I think there is a system bug for Max.

Corrected what? The rule for a LONG time has been you use a single point or more and what you convert is 1 HGVC to 16 HHonors.

It comes through as an HGV Max Current Year Conversion

It's odd for sure! I can't find anything in the rules that explicitly addresses the current year conversion ratio one way or the other.
I can't speak for bHC but for HGVC non-elite can't except for an immediate reservation. In the rules, it says that elite Plus and Elite Premier can but not others. It is in the Elite rules on the website.

I am a Legacy HGV Max member at Max Premier+ tier. I made a point conversion a few months back and received an immediate deposit of Honors points at the rate of 1:32. I was told by a service rep that the rules for current year conversion had been updated in May 2023 to grant 1:32 rate for partial HC point conversions at less than entire allotment of annual HC points. Sure enough...when I looked at the website on the Club Rules-EXTEND page I found the following text: "Conversions for less than the entire allotment may be made at the rate of 1 to 32."

see HGVClub Legacy Members, HGV Max Legacy Members, select HGV Max Members and members whose ClubPoints are attributable to an ownership interest at one of the below properties may convert associated ClubPoints to Hilton Honors on an annual basis. Conversions of entire annual allotment of ClubPoints attributable to their Home Week at the below listed resorts receive an increased conversion rate of 1 to 32. Conversions for less than the entire allotment may be made at the rate of 1 to 32.

  • The Residences, a Hilton Club
  • The Central at 5th, a Hilton Club
  • The District, a Hilton Club
  • The Quin, a Hilton Club
  • Bay Forest Odawara, a Hilton Club (also known as Odawara Vacation Suites)
  • The Beach Resort Sesoko, a Hilton Club (also known Sesoko Beach Resort)

What exactly is a "HGV Max Legacy Member"? I thought it was either Legacy or Max?
A Legacy owner who joins Max. There are some benefits that Legacy owners have that Max owners don't, like the ability to convert to HH annually... For Max owners except high level Max it is bi-annual. Legacy Max get to keep their Legacy benefits with the Max on top of them. New Max owners don't.

So, a new owner could be tricky. Buy a resale so they are a legacy owner then upgrade to join Max.

A HGV Max Legacy member is a legacy HGV member who later joined Max.

Correct... that was my situation. But in my case HGVC Legacy Elite Premier member that joined Max.
As best I can tell, I retained nearly all the HGVC Legacy Elite Premier benefits that I previously had, except for:
  • Open Season discount 30% (replaced by $700 annual open season credit when it gets implemented in 2024)
  • Dedicated team of Elite Specialists (replaced by certified HGV Max counselor)
  • Dedicated Elite section on the HGV Max Website (no longer have access to the HGVC website)
  • 10% discount on Hilton Grand Vacations Club merchandise at select HGV Club resorts (never used this, so I'm not sure if I still get this discount)
  • Elite Advantage reservation windows at Club Affiliated Resorts (HGV Max hasn't yet implemented the Loyalty Search Request)
It's very complicated to follow with all the different titles thrown around. I do have some benefits carried over from HGVC Legacy Elite Premier status that "non-Legacy" HGV Max premiers are not receiving. This Honors conversion rate is one example.

I think they have allowed EP owners to keep EP benefits, like the 30% discount, until they are implemented in Max. I know other folks have commented that they still had the Lyft credit titled EP, until it was implemented in Max, then it changed names.

Ah! The copy of the rules I pulled up on HGV just yesterday stated 1:16 for partial conversions!

Indeed, the 'EXTEND' section of the PDF copy of the rules I downloaded from the HGV website stated 1:16 for partial conversions, but the 'EXTEND' section of the rules embedded in the HGV app states 1:32.

Attached:
Club Rules PDF downloaded from HGV.com 11/9/2023.
Club Rules embedded In HGV app, screenshot 11/12/2023.

Both in the HGV app and from the HGV website it says the rules are effective as of January 2023, so there was an amendment to the current year conversion ratio after 1/1/2023 that didn't warrant an updated rules publication date.
