My son owned 18,000 points @ DRI The Club at Hilton Vacation Club, Greensprings Resort, Williamsburg, Virginia and that is all I know.
A four bedroom unit every year.

DRI is the company that HGV bought out. Many of the properties there are still DRI but, if individual properties meet HGV standards or are updated to meet HGV standards, then they are rebranded HVC. They are all still part of The Club though ... The name of the DRI program.

HGV Max is a program that you can add to your ownership that gives you access to the HGVC properties

IMHO, I feel this is a bad move.

I would lean towards buying a HGVC resale deed instead of Max. Then you get longer booking windows in HGVC. The Club with HGV Max booking window into HGVC is 6 months so leftovers.

The downside is that he would have two separate ownerships and portals but that isn't very complicated

non-HGVMax owner on HGVC side. This thing is so confusing to owners that many don't understand the new terminology. HGV sales just sells them into this HGVMax w/o explaining that there is still a HGVC side and HVC/DRI side to their ownership. (and I am even leaving out the Embarc Club in this discussion).

legacy HGVC usually refers to someone who owned HGVC before DRI acquisition, and has not bought into HGVMax since then.

if your son bought a resale HGVC property, he would also be HGVC legacy, in a sense, because be would not get Max with a resale purchase.

but owning both a DRI/HVC property and an HGVC property has advantages over Max anyway, in terms of best booking window. but the points don't combine until 6 months out.

Or, someone who buys resale HGVC/HC, assuming that they aren't already in Max. They will also be considered Legacy unless they are accidentally get put into Max.
