Combining separate reservations possible?

I booked my home week for summer 2017 and then had someone with better DC status and points book an additional 5 nights to tack onto end of my week. My name is added as their guest. Will Marriott allow me to stay in the same unit and save the hassle of checking in and out?

This should not be a problem at most properties -- there are only a few properties with fixed week/fixed unit accomodations, and those appear to be the ones where combining reservations is difficult (or if the view category is different).

Good luck and enjoy your trip!

Best,

Greg

Talk to room control at the resort a few weeks before your checkin to let them know the reservations are linked and what you want to do. As long as the view is the same they should have no problem coordinating for you. I have done it numerous times.

We have a multi-reservation stay coming up at Lakeshore. This stay involves DC points, cash, and an II exchange. When we gave our various reservation numbers to the resort via the preference email, we identified all the reservation numbers to them, and they combined them into one reservation number. Found out when I checked our ressies on Marriott.com.

I don't think you'll have a problem, because it makes it easier on them, assuming you have no view or size changes.

That should be completely impossible. The reason is because you do not own the II exchange. You could still retrade it for something else. You can also still cancel the cash reservation. What happens then? Do they go and create one or more reservation numbers again?

Maybe the new combined number is just a shell reservation number and the original reservation numbers are in the system somewhere.

Have done this successfully on numerous occasions, but all ressies have been in my name. With your points ressie being in somebody else's name, that may prove more challenging. Likely not impossible, but likely not as seamless as if both were in your name.

Most Marriott resorts try their best to combine reservations so no move is necessary, whether a trade week is involved or not. It's happened to us more than a few times at different places, and they always came through on the assignment to stay in the same unit. And we always ended up with a unit at the level of the "best" week, meaning they upgraded the trade week's status to accomplish it.

Some resorts have different types of weeks in the system, i.e., predominantly fixed weeks/fixed units, so that might be one of the unusual circumstances that would require a move on your part. Still, they would try to get the units in the same immediate vicinity to make it easy. This is always the risk when booking weeks via different means.

I have never had to move but I don't think I have ever seen the reservation numbers actually combined together. They just do it through room assignments at the resort. That is why I was so surprised at the Lakeshore reservation combined. The II reservation could change names in the blink of an eye, which could obviously cause problems.

This is the big catch. Would it be advantageous to rent the points then rebook with my DC account? My big concern there is I've never converted my week to points and haven't bought any points so I'm the lowest DC category whereas the person who made reservation and added me is silver elite.

I'm planning to hope for the best this time and let them know a month out as others have suggested. I'm still pretty clueless about destinations club and I'm not sure what my annual fee is actually getting me currently.

I've had multiple ressie's combined into one ressie within a few days of check in where I have had a combo of 2 DC ressies or a DC and a $$ ressie both with the same room type and view. Most recently one at Lakeshore and one at Ocean Pointe. I never really looked closely enough to see if the combined ressie was a brand new number or if they were folded into one or the other existing ressie numbers.

I would just call the resort and ask for the room assignment folks and ask them how they will handle your specific situation. I would assume they would prefer not to move you if at all possible thus saving them a mid stay villa cleaning.

We have had them combined into one of the existing reservation numbers, but the old numbers then went away and only a single reservation number was left. The weeks being combined have included in a couple of instances three types of reservations: a DC points reservation, an II Getaway and a cash stay.

I don't see why that should make combining he nights impossible. If part is canceled, the reservati0n would just be re-worked, the same as a single reservation would need to be re-worked if part of it is canceled.

There is a difference between combining the reservations and just staying in the same villa. The problem for the OP is that one of the reservations technically isn't theirs. It is a DC reservation made by another owner with higher ownership status. So it really isn't theirs. Unlike II reservations where the persons name is added to the actual reservation as primary, in the OPs situation, they are simply listed as a guest. So I doubt the resort will be able to combine the reservations in to a single confirmation number. Though it is possible for them to still stay in the same villa throughout their stay.

We have had the resort combine two II reservations in to a single confirmation. Though this was done very close to checkin.

Exactly. However, I could care less how the reservations are handled. Just hoping to save myself the hassle of relocating. I'm sure the resort would probably prefer not having to clean and turnover the unit as well. I'll find out a year from now.
