THANKS FOR MAKING MY DAY....

IM AT WORK, DREARY DAY, JUST AS WELL I DONT HAVE ANY WINDOWS. I WORK IN A DUNGEON. AND TO TOP IT OFF........ IM OUT OF VACATION.

:ignore: :(

The post did have its nice side. It made me remember the year I was in Sydney, not during Christmas but in January. That year I got out of the inversion and crap weather and work for the month of January. That winter wasnt so bad.

I did have a wonderful year and only 3 more weeks and I get all new vacation. Pretty sad when 7 weeks isnt enough. Guess its time to retire.

Interesting but my favorite place to spend Christmas is right here at home.

Being with family and friends no matter where it is. Is always the best.

As much as I love to travel the rest of the year, on Christmas, there's just no better place than home with the family.

My sentiments, too. And, blessedly, my children and grandchildren will be here for Christmas. I am one happy Momma/Nana!

Salt Lake City: Temple Square (and surrounds) has beautiful lights and life-size nativities from around the world. One of my favorites is the Japanese ningyo. I was attending a luncheon downtown and saw that particular set near the church office building (the high rise). That area also has lots of luminaries and they are very beautiful when lit up at night.
There are other displays throughout the city and the valley but Temple Square has an ambience and a peaceful feeling not duplicated elsewhere in the city.

I'm hoping to make some short trips for some relief from the inversion. I can't go for very long because I need to be available for FIL but I do hope to make some 2-3 day trips out of this foul air.

Hugs to you. At least your home is above the thick of it.

I have been to both London and NYC at Christmas. They are beautiful places to be that time of year and very exciting with many things going on. NYC is certainly more accessible for most and I recommend it at Christmas if only to experience it one time. It is unique. You can always take the family with you.

New York City is our favorite city by far. I can imagine it is fantastic at Christmas time but unfortunately we just don't like cold weather so we limit our visits to June-August. We spent 15 days there in July 2008 and a week this August. We already have a confirmed reservation for next June.

We have watched the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade every year for as long as I can remember.

I've never been able to get past the fact that if I'm vacationing on Christmas, then that means someone else is working.

good topic

We spent the week BEFORE Christmas in NYC in 2007 and 2009. Then we went home for Christmas, traveling back on 22nd or 23rd. It worked great, and NYC was absolutely magical. Last year it snowed starting one hour after we flew in, and Times Square and Central Park were gorgeous----what a treat! Stayed at Marriott Marquis and Marriott Renaissance using Rewards Points....awesome value since it's typically over $600 a night that week.

I think we may do it again within five years, but now we want to try another major city, perhaps Chicago, because of access to great shows. Our two kids are college-aged and had a blast. Walking the streets and shopping was so much fun, and we did several shows, starting with Radio City's Christmas Spectacular, which got us "in the mood".
Restaurants were fantastic----cozy and great food, and it was quite special to see the Rockefeller Center tree......so much to see and do. Love NYC!

I suspect that they'd be working, whether or not you were there.
Besides, they may be jewish, muslim, atheist, or needed some O/T pay.
Being there, helps them to put food on the table at a time when jobs are scarce.

Any list that does not include Canada on it is a joke of a list.
Afterall Santa lives in Canada.

When I traveled on business, I used to love when I had a trip to NY in December. Always so pretty with all the lights and decorations!

I have only visited Quebec City in the summer, but I think it would be a wonderful place to spend Christmas, too. I've read that Santa Fe has great holiday traditions, and thought it would be nice holiday destination where I was there, too.

But like others, the holidays for me are spending time with family, so we don't travel except for a few hours' drive to a family get together!

I am hoping to spend Christmas 2011 in Boston with my DD.

Im sorry about your FIL it seems you've had more than your share of elderly health care problems. You are a good woman.

Both my parents died 26 years ago, acutally mom died Dec 18 and my dad a couple weeks later on Jan 12th. My brother died last year at this time and my BIL passed away last Saturday. So you are blessed. Its just hard.

Sometimes just driving down to St. George has its plus, or even Park City. Maybe SWA will have some specials and you can fly to San Diego.

The Temple lights are very pretty. It will be nice when all the downtown construction is completed. Layton city offices has a pretty good display of lights, kind of unusual (animals along with Christmas) Different for children.

Merry Christmas to you and yours.

Thank you.

Some of us just didn't have enough seniority to get the holiday off. On the bright side, it was great to be paid double time for working on the easiest day of our year! :whoopie:

Cheers!
