We are planning on going to the Kona Coast Resort. I believe part of the current Kona Coast Resort previously was Shell Vacation Club. The Wyndham website indicates on the floor plan that there are 2 bathrooms in the 2 bedroom units. But the description indicates there is only 1 bathroom.

Two questions:
1. How many bathrooms in the 2 bedroom?
2. I understand this resort has two Phases. Phase 1 includes buildings # 1 - 12, and Phase 2 includes buildings 15 - 30. Any suggestions for requesting which Phase or Building or Floor?

We are Founders, Presidential Reserve if that makes any difference.

Thanks!

We own deeded weeks in KCR II, purchased from Shell before Shell became a points program. The 2BR units do have 2 bathrooms. Our family was never concerned with views, because my dad would roust us up in early morning and keep us going all day, so I have no location recommendations. I don’t think I’ve ever stayed in any unit other than 16-101!

Thank you for the information. Having 2 bathrooms is a big deal to some people that will be going with us.

Shell is not defunct, it's still Shell.

I just did kind of a review on Kona Coast on TUG a few weeks ago. My review is below. We are platinum founders.

The one we were assigned had a stale smell, like it's not used. The doors were all open, sliding door and front door was not even latched closed. So odd.

AC costs additional, and you will need AC, so just pay for it. The windows don't open, the fans don't adjust in the unit. The patio was very nice. Beautiful kitchen, lots of counters. Very small TV's, the size of a computer monitor in every room. Not impressive for tech at all. I am tired of Wyndham's limit of devices, personally, and I would like to see them move into the 21st century with tech.

We were in one of the older buildings with the garage. We walked down to our unit, about half a flight of stairs or a path, and I used to path rather than the stairs.

Maybe consider the Kona Hawaiian Village instead.

My review:

The Kona Coast unit we had for last night and tonight, unit 9-101, has a single car garage for us to use while there, which kept the car out of the hot sun. The unit is a half-flight of stairs down and the patio is really nice, large and very comfortable, and it's the habitable place to sit without the AC. I didn't want to pay for AC for a few hours, and of course we wanted to spend some time outside anyway, and we were in the shade all day. We had no view of the ocean from our unit, but it's pretty outside, so we enjoyed it very much. We didn't spend the night at the Kona Coast, just spent about 8 hours, unpacking groceries into the refrigerator (frozen and refrigerated stuff). We snacked on salsa and cheese for lunch. This particular unit had two king beds, ceiling fans that didn't adjust to higher speeds, which I thought was weird that the only speed was low, and the windows all seem to be stuck open about 6-8 inches to allow a breeze. I tried to close them, but they were stiff and didn't close easily.

The kitchen is fantastic, large, lots of counter and cupboard space. The TV's in the bedrooms were tiny, about the size of my last computer monitor (when I had a tower many years ago). The TV in the living room was nice and big, but we didn't use it.

The really weird thing, the front door and the sliding door were both wide open upon our arrival. Rick hit the door with the bag of frozen items, and the door just pushed wide open, no key necessary. They we went to the sliding door, and it was also not locked. Maybe the maids left them open, I don't know what reason the maids would have to leave the unit's doors unlocked, but it was strange.

Kona Coast is much better in my opinion than Kona Hawaiian Village . We have owned at both and have sold KHV. Phase1 is the original construction and is older but roomer, it was initially marketed as condos and there are quite a few owners that occupy them. Phase11 is all timeshares and all 2 bedrooms have 2 baths. When we stay there we don’t use ac as there is a good breeze. You can try it without ac and if you want it you can always ask for it at anytime.

No breeze when we were there last month. I wouldn't recommend it without AC in summer. Of course, I am in Colorado and it's 96 degrees here today, and I am miserable because that is not our usual daytime temperature. Yesterday was 100.

My AC is on 72 degrees and all ceiling fans are spinning.

As I said above, our ownership is in KCR II. The units we’ve stayed in have always been one level, no internal stairs, no garage, but the building has been two stories with an external stairway to the second floor. I’ve never stayed upstairs, but many years ago my parents reserved two units for the family to celebrate their 50th anniversary, and my siblings were in the unit above my parents and my family. I don’t recall whether we used the AC or not!

We appreciate all the previous comments to our questions. We called the resort and did confirm that all 2 bedroom units have 2 bathrooms. We are going next week, and will provide feedback.

Thanks again everyone!
