We'll be staying at this resort in December. Any recommendations on restaurants (or places/tours to avoid)? Should we rent a car? When we visit PV (in Conchas Chinas), we do not rent a car because taxis are affordable and easy to find. Are we too far from restaurants and places to visit to use taxis this time? Is it safe to drive in Los Cabos and surrounding areas?

Definitely get a car. You are about 15 miles from Cabo. The bus system is not as good as in PV. We find it to be easy and safe to drive. Edited to add that everything in Cabo is more expensive than in PV so I would imagine you would be paying some hefty cab fees if you were to go into town often.

We rented a car and were very glad we did. Club Regina is located on the corridor in between Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo. It's actually closer to San Jose. It's a little on the remote side. Driving there isn't really a big deal. It's like driving in the US. There are several very good restaurants in San Jose. We enjoyed Damiana on the plaza, the Tropicana Bar & Grill, and either of the Morgan's restaurants. There is also a little dive on the beach as you head into San Jose called Zippers. The food is average, but really cheap and the view doesn't get any better. The restaurants at the resort are spendy and the food is just average. As an owner we get 20% off all food and drink at the resort, but I'd still eat elsewhere.

If you are there in December you should be able to watch the whales go by from your balcony.:)

Have a great time!

A car is a must- taxi's are very expensive- shuttle was unreliable- first time we stayed at the Club Regina, we did not rent a car for the whole time- just a day here and there from the rental desk at the club- ended to be very expensive. The last time we rented via internet- with Avis- was so glad that we did- price was reasonable and we enjoyed going here and there. Driving was no problem. We also enjoyed San Jose best- lower key than Cabo, better parking, less traffic.

Great views from all units- staff is wonderful- you will enjoy it all.

Definetly rent a car. In the corridor you will need it to get everywhere. I spent a week in Cabo and San Jose and felt the dinning in San Jose was superior. Damiana was nice but our 3 favorites were El Chilar, Don Emilianos, Da Antonios in the Presidente hotel for great Italian. All these restaurants have exceptional service to compliment their food. El Comal, Jazmines, Voilla are also nice. In Cabo try La Fonda it's off the beaten path but combines high quality with great value in a nice atmosphere. Pez Gato for cruises was our choice. Avoid the city tours if you have a rental.

Cabo Club Regina

Although this resort is on corridor, don't be intimidated about driving. However, when you venture out at night, be careful to watch for cows on the roads. We came upon some north of San Lucas.

Check out the evening buffets and the nusic at the resort. A couple of nights we ate in the garden area at the hotel to wonderful musicians and had very good food. The atmosphere under the stars was fantastic. They also have a member night at the Arricifes (sp) up on the bank overlooking the beach and hotel. Go after 7:00 for the music.

Be sure to take a swim under the stars one night when the sky is very clear. The stars look like diamonds on black velvet...the water is warmed from the sun and you will hear the waves crashing onto the shore. We use an upper level pool because it is more private. It is very special.

We love this resort and don't mind renting a car. We shop on the internet for best weekly deal. Maybe someone else can advise on car insurance in Mexico.
I forget the best way of doing it.

Every unit has a wonderful view of the ocean and the whales swimming by. Take your binoculars...however, I did see one swim close to shore while there. ENJOY!

We're in Cabo right now at the PB Rose. We've also stayed at the Regina and I recommend a car, too, for all the reasons given above.

I highly recommend the dinner cruise on the CaboRey. The food and entertainment were excellent. If you happen to do a timeshare presentation anywhere, ask for tickets as part of your gift. It was well worth it.

On the marina is a wonderful new place called Senor Sweets. They have the most wonderful desserts and a huge selection of gelato and sorbets. Great salads and pizzas, too.

Another new activity in Cabo is the Dolphin Experience--a first class outfit. We watched some folks swimming with the dolphins and it looked like tons of fun. It's spendy--over $100 a person. Another good timeshare presentation gift!

A couple of presentations that were good (not too high pressure) were Playa Grande in Cabo and Playa del Sol in San Jose.

We are owners at Grand Regina (next door) and always rent a car. Except when we bring our adult children (late teens early 20's) we always eat in San Jose. Two other restaurants that we love are Local Eight and Mi Cucina. Mi Cucina is in the Hotel Casa Natalie across the square in San Jose. Probably the best food in San Jose. For inexpensive (very reasonable) dining and probably the best pizza in Cabo, try La Dolce - in the same square as Daminana.
We find that driving is fine. Just watch out for the cows! We were there in December and had a great time. Also, make sure that you go to the Westin's seafood buffet on Saturday and /or Wednesday night. It's really great!

Also try the Tropicana resturant, very good and reasonable.
I'll second that recommendation. We ate there a few years ago, but heard last week that it was still a great place and that it had been refurbished.

We also heard about a place in San Jose that was across the street from Damian's and had a weird name that I can't remember. But every item on the menu was a dollar. They didn't have a liquor license, but you could bring your own wine or whatever and they'd provide you with glasses for it.

We ran out of time before we got to San Jose this trip, but maybe next year we'll get to try these places.

Another favorite of ours in San Jose is the Rusty Putter. It's behind the new Mega store and is a sports bar with decent food. It also has a nice miniature golf course attached to it, and that was a fun thing to do after dinner. There's a local soccer field with bleachers nearby and it was fun to watch a couple of locals teams play one evening.

An odd thing in Cabo about driving

We noticed that if you want to make a left turn at some intersections with traffic signals and additional access roads right beside the main road, you need to go to the right onto a access road and then cross the intersection at the light turning left back onto the main road. It's kind of confusing.

On the corridor highway you'll see signs that say "retorno". It's a turnaround area to make a left turn to "return" to going the opposite direction.

The Rusty Putter was nice for breakfast. We stayed at the Grand Baja across the streat and it's a quick walk. We did breakfast also at the Tropicana and it was good but the service could have been better. They might have been having an off morning. They make a great mango smoothy. I think it's hard to find a bad meal in San Jose.

No matter how much they offer you, DO NOT GO to Mayan Palace tours. We've been spared the ordeal by the advice of other Tuggers.:D
