I received my confimation into Club International de Cancun today.:cheer:

1. Has anyone been there before? What can we expect?

2. Do we need a rental car? Is there public transportation?

3. Any important info that I need to know about.

Thanks,
Jolie

Club International Cancun (AKA VCI)

Expect an excellent staff and a clean well-kept resort, with small buildings and lovely landscaping. Quiet gentle beach. Pools and activities. Pleasant reasonably priced Palapa restaurant. Free shuttle to the other Royal Resorts which are all bigger with additional restaurant and pool choices, as well as surfier beaches.

Besides the Royal Resorts' shuttle, public busses are frequent, reliable, and cheap, and there are taxis. We've never used or wanted a rental car for going around Cancun, though many people do. We have rented a few times for day trips, but there are also plenty of guided tours or you can engage the services of a private van/driver for the day. There are tons of options.

Search for Club International, VCI, and Royal Resorts on this forum and you'll find lots of info!

1. Ditto to the previous post, plus many of us have been there, great place.
3. It is a 30 yr old, meticulously maintained resort that just went through the mandatory Mexican law "change of ownership", though the same owners bought it back (threads have been posted here). They are again selling weeks so bring your checkbook or be prepared to say "no thanks" (they understand no thanks), but the price on a two bedroom, lagoon view (I like the lagoon) is enticing. Any current Royal Resort owner can get you a discount, so don't pay full price or as they say here, wait for resales ( I hate to wait).

The resort has a lot of non-ocean view rooms. It's a low rise mediteranean style resort with 2 pools, beach, tennis courts, a restaurant and a small store among other amenities. Very nice gardens and a nearly surf-less beach. A very nice resort, my 4th choice for a vacation in Cancun. It's the first of the Royal Resorts in Cancun.

For an EXCELLENT up-scale meal, eat at El Conquistador in the Royal Mayan. It is one of the "Royals" restaurants. Take the free shuttle from VCI. Rated among the best in all of Cancun.

I would also recommend dinner at the Hacienda Sisal, located by the Royal Sands. It is affiliated with the Royal Resorts, so you can charge dinner to your room account, and you will also receive a 10-15% discount.

Hi Jolie

My wife and I were there for the first 30 years.

Club International de Cancun is our favorite Royal Resort. It has a country club type atmosphere. As time went on and the next generations of Royals appeared they became more and more like hotels. You will like "The Club"!

There are B and C villas. See this web site for a floor plan or your villa type - http://www.royalresorts.com/vcimap.php

One nice thing about Club International de Cancun is that it's close to downtown Cancun, about a 15 to 20 minute bus trip. I suggest you try some downtown restaurants and get into the Mexico environment. You may also want to shop at Market 23 - lots of neat stuff.

Make sure you go to the orientation meeting on Sunday Morning. (This is not a sales meeting.) They will tell you about day trips, shopping and restaurants. Also go to the beach party Sunday afternoon. There will be free drinks and lots of fun. You'll get invitations from your concierge that tell you the time and place.

Here's a good web site to help you plan for your trip - http://www.geocities.com/tonygraz/triptips.html

Have fun!!!

....A very nice resort, my 4th choice for a vacation in Cancun......

Just wondering, tonyg, I presume the 1st 3 are also Royals....is that the case, and if so, which of the 5 Royals do you rate below VCI?

Jolie,
I'd suggest you read up on Cancun here on TUG, but here are a few short tips:
- bring lots of $1s for much apppreciated tips in the resort,
- consider taking advantage of the activities offered by the resort - offered all day long - almost all are free and fun
- visit at least one of the following: XCaret or Xel-Ha, and Chitzen Itza or Tulum ruins
- consider Isla Mujeres - read up a little more and see if it has recovered enough to visit after the hurricane a few years ago. Its such a self-paced, fun way to spend a day.
- your resort is a very convenient locale -- be sure to bus into the city and enjoy meals or shopping there (Weird, but I always buy lots of vanilla for souveniors! All my baking friends love me for that!)

You will love Cancun. Enjoy!
