Resorts Owned
Royal Sands, Lawrence Welk
We usually stay at the Royal Haciendas. Are there any comparable timeshares that are a little closer to downtown Playa del Carmen?

Playacar Palace is the closest. It is part of the Palace Resorts - like Moon Palace, Sun Palace, Beach Palace in Cancun.

sorry - I should have included the caveat - NO AI MANDATORY t/s

Thanks again

Isn't Royal Haciendas mandatory AI? At least when exchanging in. So it is also important to know how you would be booking.

I'm an owner - so AI is optional

Sunset Fishermens Resort and Spa. Located in Playacar. At most a 15 min walk to Playa Del Carmen 5th Avenue. I own 13 contracts there. The resort is both timeshare and full time private ownership. All the contracts are Optional All Inclusive that I have ever seen. This resort is unlike any other resort. The resort is literally Ocean Fronf. Less than 67 timeshare units almost all Ocean View. The resort has been sold out for over 15 years. Has US,Canadian, Mexican owners. Most folks come the same weeks each year and have become very friendly with each other.
If you would like more information on this property PM me.

Now we are retired we spend 2 months there in the winter. There was a clinch this year because of Covid. Fishermens Village belongs to the Sunset group and because of Covid occupancy was way down at all the resorts starting 2/6 Fishermens closed. Not to open again until November. All reservations were either moved to sister resort and allowed to roll over to 2022.

Playacar Palace has great wedding packages and a whole department for wedding planning. Good group discounts and since it’s AI no one has to worry about going to grocery store. You can also book from owners or off RCI. It used to be if the wedding couple booked 5 nights they received all the perks.
I helped organize a wedding at the Moon Palace location many years ago. Both grooms and brides families were going I believe their totals were around 45 persons. It was in May. I rented several rooms to the group. Some booked privately as they only wanted to stay for 5 nights. The bride and groom booked privately to get the perks. I believe the brides family spent an additional 2,000.00 on the wedding for some very detailed extras.
Unfortunately the groom called off the wedding the week prior. Much drama, but the bride was better off in the long run. The 2 families were neighbors and the couple had known each other since childhood. The groom and the bride brother were roommates at Medical school. The brides family cancelled everything and I believe got their money refunded. There was no refunds on the timeshare units I got from RCI there wasn’t that much money involved there as they had no paid the AI yet. The groom and his family and friends went anyway. As so many folks had bought airfare and taken the time off of work. Some of the brides family went like an uncle and his family. The brides family asked me to go and actually paid for my room and AI. I paid my own airfare. They wanted me to go to make certain everything was cancelled and they received their money refunded.

I’ve stayed at Sunset Fisherman and we enjoyed everything but the AI. The food was awful and there are so many great places to eat in PDC. I would rent from an owner to avoid AI there. The location is awesome and we walked down the beach to PDC almost every day.

Thank you for the tip!

I can’t really judge if the food is terrible at Fishermens as we never take the AI as we are owners and for ourselves and our guests it’s not required. It always surprises me how many owners take the AI when they don’t have too. We and all our guests get an owners discount so breakfast and lunch is very reasonable. All the rooms have kitchens and as stated above there are literally hundreds of places to eat in Playa. We do have breakfast on-site a few times during our stay it’s buffet and this year a much smaller buffet very custom everything was top notch and the service is beyond excellent. I’m seeing Fishermens on RCI for optional all inclusive which would be a great deal. Probably not much more than renting from an owner if you needed added rooms.

At the time I got my exchange, I didn't realize they had two different resort codes for AI or non AI. We enjoyed it and I would go back just for the location.

Guacamoles on 10th had awesome tacos and crazy good margaritas.
