Would you rather stay in a one bedroom with full kitchen at Pono Kai in Kapaa on Kauai, or same size at Cliffs Club in Princeville ? We have stayed at Cliffs Club before and found it very comfortable. Have walked grounds of Pono Kai and thought it seemed nice.

It depends on the season, since Princeville is a lot rainier in the winter.

We've enjoyed both, so would probably let the rain factor influence your decision.

Thanks for input. I decided to take the Pono Kai. It is a one BR loft through Pacific Fantasy. Would that be a second floor unit since it is a loft ? Does anyone know which building the Pacific Fantasy units are located in ?

Found this on an old thread.

Pacific Fantasy Time Share Owners Association (PFTSOA):
Comprised of 17 timeshare units (1 unit each in B, C, G and H Buildings, 2 units each in A, D and F Buildings, 3 units in E Building, and 4 units in J Building), PFTSOA represents 7.0936% of the ownership at the Pono Kai Resort. PFTSOA is responsible for the maintenance of each of their 17 units.

Please let us know how you like the Pono Kai. We've also walked it but have read mixed reports regarding the units...some not remodeled. They are the most frequently listed availabilities on Interval exchanges for Kauai. We prefer the Marriott but it's harder and harder to get in there on an exchange if you're not in the Marriott system. We're scheduled for the Cliff's Club in August. Were there two years ago, and they are really nice units, but we prefer Kihei south to Poipu so if i can exchange that I will.

You have to pay attention to the unit you get at the Pono Kai. There are a few management companies there managing units. For the Pono Kai owners association, all the units won't be done until into 2020. Even with the renovations i wouldn't say they are Marriott quality. i did upload some of those pictures here on TUG. They are definitely nice and a big improvement. I'll be there in 48 days but who's counting.:)

if you rent, there are also many whole owned units in varying degrees of being upgraded so you have to be carefull. That is why the reviews vary greatly on the Pono Kai.

I don't know if the unit we're in is renovated or not but we'll get one for sure in 2018. We find staying in Kapaa convenient at anytime of the year.

Thanks for the input. I got a trade through II for a Pacific Fantasy 1 bedroom with loft unit. Do you know which buildings those particular units are in ?

Yes, Pacific Fantasy owns units in every building but they only have loft units in the D, F and H buildings. They are managed by Pohaku but I don't know if their units are being renovated. They were always decorated differently than the Pono Kai owner units. As an example, they always had Murphy beds in the living room.

The loft units are all on the top (third) floor. The D building is the only ocean front building with the loft units that Pacific Fantasy has. The view will be blocked some because there are trees inbetween the unit and the ocean but they are a little closer to town. If I had a choice I would take the one in the F building. It is set back alittle from the ocean front buildings but you still get a great view of the ocean. The picture is from a unit just a couple of units to the right of the Pacific Fantasy unit.

The F building has turned out to be one of my wifes favorites because the parking is close and it's close to the pool and closer to town than the A building. I prefer the B building but you do have to walk further to the car and that can be an issue with luggage or groceries. We will be in a two bedroom loft unit in the F building in February.

Let me know if you have any other questions. i have more pictures of different views and more of the renovated units.

Here's a picture of the view from D207 so one floor under the Pacific Fantasy loft unit.

This is why the area beaches are messy, imo. All the garbage flows into the ocean then washes up onto the area beaches. I think it rains here all year long but even more so in the winter. This is a nice area when the weather is nice but nice weather is when the swarms of mosquitoes come out.

That's not correct - most of the beach debris is from the Japanese tsunami - not local trash. If you take a closer look, you will see Japanese writing on it. Look it up. At our resort that have had all kinds of things was up: docks, walls, boats, stuff that washed off of boats - you name it.

Yes, I am correct when you include all of the vegetative debris and local / tourist garbage that flows out of the rivers into the ocean and washes up on shore after heavy rains and storms. It is not the Japanese Tsunami, which is a form of marine debris, that is the cause of the dirty looking water and beaches. It is the runoff created by weather which includes sediment, vegetation and general debris combined with too many people abusing the beaches that is the main source of dirty beaches.

You are correct about the tsunami, and other storms, in other locations, that deposit debris into the Pacific Ocean, that are the main cause of marine debris on Hawaiian Beaches. This marine debris contribution is not very significant compared to the overall reasons the beaches are dirty, imo. Most of what I saw are tourist / locals items and vegetation.

We own 7 weeks on Kauai and have participated in beach clean up many times and my personal experience is that most trash is from the tsunami - not local.

Could it be that the beach you are cleaning has limited traffic ? Some beaches are a bit harder for the public to access.
