We've got a week booked in a studio/sleeps 4 (it will just be two of us) starting July 7. We've never been to Snowbird and would appreciate any recommendations for activities and places to eat.

Are there golf courses nearby & how much do they cost? I've read about a Bluegrass Music Festival that will there during the weekend and that sounds fun. What else might we expect to see or do there? How far will we be from Park City? Would it be worth driving to? What temperatures should we expect?

Thanks for any advice.

Hi Karen,

Snowbird has a gorgeous location with dramatic mountain scenery in all directions. It's in a very narrow canyon, however, and the dining, shopping, entertainment, and recreation options in the immediate vicinity are extremely limited. Aside from the lodges and hiking, there really isn't much there.

Your closest golf and major shopping and dining will be in the Salt Lake City suburbs. It's about 1/2 hour drive down the canyon to the suburbs...a bit longer to downtown SLC. Park City is about an hour away and well worth the drive. Park City has all the resort amenities including multiple golf courses, great shopping and dining, factory outlets, the Utah Olympic Park, alpine slide, etc.

As for the weather, it's hot in the city while much cooler in the mountains. Highs in SLC are in the mid to upper 90s right now. Highs at Snowbird will be about 10 - 15 degrees cooler than SLC during the day. You'll want a sweater or jacket at night...it can get pretty cold at night in the mountains even in July.

I hope you enjoy your stay here in Utah.

Steve

I don't golf, but there are many, many courses in the SLC and PC areas, not to mention Thanksgiving Point in Lehi.

As Steve said, there isn't a whole lot to do at Snowbird. You can take the tram up the mountain and hike down. You can get a massage at the spa. It's great if you just want to kick back and relax or hike. If you want to do more, you'll need to come down off the mountain.

I'd suggest a day trip to Park City if you've never been there before. Maybe even drive to Midway, Heber, Mirror Lake, Sundance or some of the other mountain areas.

Timpanogos Cave can be fun. Search any of the threads about Park City, and you'll come up with ideas that include SLC and surrounds.

PM me if you want.
