If you buy resale and it's not a M resort, you don't have to join SVN, right? So you can reserve a week and then go ahead and trade with II, right? And the very week and resort you have is what trades with II? Am I right in this?

Also, does the 3 day Starwood preference with II period still apply to this case (voluntary Sheraton)?

Thank you!

Pretty much yes - you call Starwood and make a reservation for your whole unit of seperate them and make 2 reservations.
You then tell Starwood you want to deposit them in your II account. Some reps do not KNOW that you can do ths and try to get you to take a week already deposited - it is up to you if you would like to accept that week but you are actually entitled to deposit the week you reserved. Be aware that Starwood reps don't seem to know (or don't care  ) that it DOES matter what week is deposited in II in terms of trading power.

Once you have ownership of your week - log into 'mystarcentral.com' and read about how to use your ownership - it will clearly state what you are entitled to.
Be polite but firm if the Starwood rep tries to deposit a 'not so good' week for you or one at a different resort - Starwood Vistanna Orlando will NOT trade as well as a deposit of your home resort in Feb/March. If they try to tell you it doesn't matter - it DOES - because unlike the Starwood internal trade system where a point is a point is a point - Resorts and time frame are VERY important in II or SFX.

Ok thanks for that great info. One more question. Once I reserved my week and deposite it with II through SVO, I see the other Starwood properties in the preference period of 3 days with II right? Kath.

Kath - I have never deposited anything with II, but a WKORV "ghost" week still shows in my II Developer Acct. that allows me to look. (This is the automatic II account that comes with a developer purchase.)

I have never opened an acct. with my SDO resale week, so not sure if that's true with resales as well. (Starwood will not allow you to use your II developer acct. for timeshares that were not purchased from the developer.)

Yes, only other Starwood resorts with sufficient trading power will see other Starwood weeks for the first 72 hours after they are deposited. The 'usual' II size restriction (like for like) is also lifted.

The important part of this is 'sufficient trade power' - a summer week at Westin Mission Hills will not have the same trading power as a Feb/March week. Check your II print directory for "travel demand index" to see when the highest demand times are. There was a thread on this forum regarding who could 'see' Marriott Newport Coast with their Starwood weeks - and it did vary according to resort and time frame.

Not as well at Spring Training (March) or Easter Week - those are the highest demand weeks at SDO.
