Cheap eats in the downtown/Pioneer Square/Colman Ferry terminal area
These are all places that cater to the downtown working crowd, not the tourist crowd. Lunch is the main business period for them and service is fast and efficient. All of the ones I listed also dish up quality fare.
The International District is the area south of downtown and east of Qwest Field and Pioneer Square. This is the main Asian district in town - essentially Seattle's very poor version of a Chinatown. This is the place to go for Chinese food and dim sum. Also lots of Chinese bakeries in the area. Many good places to pick up pork buns - a good pork bun can easily be a meal for a light eater.

- Chuck's Hole in the Wall BBQ (James between Second and Third)
- Mae Phim Thai Food - Columbia just west of First
- Cafe Zum Zum - Pakistani. Madison Food Court, Third and Madison
- Blue Water Taqueria. various locations, I like the one on Second and Madison
- Bakeman's. outstanding turkey sandwiches - real turkey, roasted daily. Don't be put off by the long lines at lunch time; the line moves quickly.
- Guajillo's (new addition to the list) James between Second and Third, next door to Chuck's Hole in the Wall BBQ. I just found this place when I was out for lunch today during jury duty at the courthouse a block away. They describe themselves as a Mexico City kitchen. No gringo Mex stuff such as tacos, burritos, enchiladas, or rellenos here. I had a $6.95 lunch special of chilaquiles con pollo with fideo soup (a light tomato and potato broth with vermicelli).
