My wife wants me to book her a 5-night stay at the Elara HGVC. There's a chance she will only need 4-nights. Will points be refunded if the reservation is shortened more than 30-days in advance? Thanks for any feedback.

You can't change within 61 days so, if is farther out than that, then yes.

Yes your points will be refunded but you’ll lose your reservation fee unless you change it 61 days out. The 30 day window is gone for changes.

Between the 30 days and 61 days, you would cancel your reservation, lose your booking fee unless you are Max or Elite Premier but get your points back, and then book it again for less days. Now, you can call CS and they may bend the rules to modify it but they don't have to. Within 30 days, you start losing your points with a cancellation.

Thanks for the answers. Here's another question, but this time on borrowing points: Can I make a 2025 in 2024 with borrowed points from 2026? I believe the answer is yes. I just need someone to verify that my understanding is correct. I am trying whether to convert my 2025 HGVC points to HH points, but I want to make sure I can still book 2025 trips with 2026 points in 2024.

You can book a reservation now for 2025 using 2026 points. You can't book a stay in 2024 with 2026 points.

Why would you convert? It’s not a good play.

It's better than losing those points. If @TheDude knows they will not use those points for timeshare reservations, it's probably the second best use for those points. But you are correct, one does lose quite a bit of value converting to Honors points.

I would say the RCI route is much better.
At least in RCI, you can get decent deals on HC properties plus the non-Hilton stuff but really need to read the fee section before booking. Some have additional fees.

You can get some HC properties cheaper through HGVC though.

I did on OGS one time and matched Charter Club in Marco so yes I agree the RCI route is better. RCI also has very good Mexico availability

That was a good find. I routinely see great deals on the NYC HC properties

It is possible to find some decent HH point conversion options. I found an SLH in Turks & Caicos where the standard redemption options includes booking a 2 BR unit. The point cost is 130,000 HH; admittedly steep but ~ what you’d get converting a 23,040 bHC week. Staying there next spring to try it out using some FNCs (making it a great deal) for a few nights before a ThirdHome exchange into a vacation home. Availability seems consistent year round at this point; if it’s nice it’ll make a good additional option to consider.

It has a full kitchen and comes with free breakfast if you’re Diamond with HH.
