I've got a category 1-5, 7 night certificate left over from a points package. It was worth 235,000 points for the airfare alone, so I figure this certificate is almost a bonus week.

Any suggestions for great Marriott hotels, category 1-5?

Marriott's Reward Category List

Without knowing where you might want to go, that's a tough task with Marriott's 2500 hotels around the world. There are some great Cat5 hotels, and some Cat4 too. Search this Category site to narrow down your choices by location. Have fun.

Some suggestions:

Residence Inn Maingate - Disneyland
Courtyard San Francisco at Fisherman's Wharf
Courtyard San Diego Downtown
Bay Point Marriott - Panama City next to Marriott Legends Edge timeshare
Tampa Marriott Waterside Hotel and Marina
JW Marriott Hotel - New Orleans
Both Renaissance Hotels - New Orleans
In at Bay Harbor - Michigan
Courtyard Atlantic City - Brand new just off boardwalk
Cleveland Marriott at Key Center
Residence Inn Virginia Beach Oceanfront
Residence Inn Downtown/Lake Union - Seattle

Lots of these are lower due to the part of the country. The ones in New Orleans are very, very nice for being a five. Same for the one in Michigan, and the ones in Cleveland.

We are using ours at the Marriott in Edinburgh. We also consider using a level 5 at choice level 4 resorts located in places where they have nothing else.

For instance, we were outlining a driving trip from Northern New Mexico, through Colorado and up to Mt Rushmore and the Bad lands. There is a level 4 on the North side of the parks that we were thinking we would us a level 5 since the cost per night is ~ $180. It also used to be that Montreal had some level 4's and 5's.

Suggestions are much easier if we have an idea of some places/ parts of country/ out of country you might have in the back of their mind.

That's the problem.......I have no specific locations or vacations in mind! I like big cities, beach vacations and foreign travel.

I love to explore new places! Edinburgh, San Francisco, San Diego, Bay Point.....they all are very tempting! (although San Francisco & San Diego aren't new)

I'm ready for a trip, airfare is not an issue (husband works for an airline and we travel stand-by).

I'm just looking for suggestions of fun locations where a Marriott property category 1-5 might be an option.

Thanks for the ideas so far! I'll start checking for availablity, maybe next fall.

Just curious where some of your best category 5 stays have been?

That's a great luxury to have!

With cost of airfare these days and hassles of airport screening, I'm limited to driving distance only vacations til the kiddies are much older. Looks like my AC will be going to waste since there's absolutely nothing within a 10hr drive for my vacation wk.

We are in the same situation...we plan to use ours in either Budapest, Quebec, or Montreal.

Courtyard in Quebec City?

My parents stayed in the Marriott in Budapest prior to a river cruise and loved the location! We got the room on Priceline and they were extremely pleased with the accommodations.

There are several options in Vancouver also that look tempting. I love Vancouver, but I've been there several times. Budapest, Quebec & Montreal would all be new for me.

I'm also looking at a couple of Marriott's in Hong Kong. That's another place I've always wanted to visit.

Courtyard in Quebec City?

I think it is a Courtyard...it is one that is very centrally located; I think it is described as "at the gates of the Old City", or something like that. A lot of the international Category 5s are not in cental locations, and these are the ones I found that did seem to be in great locations.

So many choices depending on where you want to go and type of vacation you are looking for as others have stated.

If you are looking for a great beach vacation there aren't too many good choices but I would highly recommend the Marriott Casa Magna in Cancun as one of the few category 5 marriotts directly on the beach. :hi: :cheer:

If you're willing to look anywhere in the world, then you might take a peek at the JW Marriott Phuket Resort & Spa in Thailand and the JW Marriott Hotel Shanghai at Tomorrow Square in China. Both of them are Cat. 5 hotels and are among the best Marriott's in the world.

Thanks for all the suggestions! Montreal, Cancun, Phuket, Shanghai, Quebec City, Atlanta, Edinburgh, Newport Beach, San Fransicso, Seattle, Bay Point, New Orleans........lots of great ideas!

This is what I was hoping for...suggestions of some great Marriott properties that are category 1-5!

Thanks! Planning is almost as much fun as the vacation!

We are actually thinking about booking a category 5 travel package next for a trip to DC (there are a couple cat 5 hotels there that are decent), and this thread just solidifies the fact a cat 5 (or less) stay may not be that bad after all :D

Thanks for starting this topic !!!

It seems there are some great options with a category 5 hotel package.

I've stayed several times in a Courtyard outside of Amsterdam, category 4. It was a category 3 when it first opened. They have a shuttle to the airport/train station so it's easy to get into Amsterdam for the day. The shuttle was free when I stayed there, but now I think there's a charge.

Another one that tempts me is Praia D'El Rey Marriott Golf & Beach Resort, Portugal, category 5.
