We are considering 'banking' our Carriage Hill resort this year. Do we have to use RCI????

We feel that RCI may not offer us the exchange we may need i.e. California (San Diego or L.A. areas) in summer and school holidays.

How do we go about using another exchange company because Carriage Hill requests that you use RCI to bank your week(s)???

Need information right away as we need to pay up and bank or else?

Thanks so much

CJ and Gh

The resort banked the week for you with RCI. It usually is not a great week. I would just reserved a summer week in Carriage Hills and banked it with SFX.

You will have MUCH better luck for finding California in the summer using SFX rather than RCI.

Hi again: We have not yet banked this Carriage Hills Resort with RCI.

The documentation we receive to pay our maintenace fees indicates that if we want to BANK our week, then we need to fill in the information at the bottom of the documentation. This area is reserved for RCI banked weeks??

We don't want to go with RCI. How do we get out of banking with RCI when our own resort specifies on its documentation/paperwork that we have to use RCI for banking our week(s)?????

1) Do we pay maintenance fees first and reserve a week(s) with Carriage Hills Resort, then
2) bank with say SFX?

can this even be done. We get the impression that Carriage Hills Resort will not let us bank with any company other than RCI.

Hi: Just looked up RCI directory on internet. Carriage Hills Resort as well as Carriage Ridge Resort are showing the studio as accomodating only 2(two) people. The 2 bedrooms (which would consist of the 1 bedroom and the studio) are shown as accommodating only 6 (six) people.

We have not only purchased at Carriage Hills Resort on the basis that the entire unit accomodates 8 (eight) people, we have always stayed at our home resort. We have been able to sleep 8 people (4 in the 1 bedroom with king bed in bedroom and 2 on the queen sofabed) and 2 in king bed in studio and 2 on queen sofabed in the studio = 8 people.

The information at the RCI website is very misleading to potential exchangers who wish to go to Carriage Hills/Ridge. If there were seven people wishing to go there, they would not even consider my unit because according to RCI website, it only can accomodate six (6). Not correct?

I contacted RCI today and they said the information on their website comes from the Carriage Hills/Ridge management.

I will be contacting them tomorrow, Monday to have them explain this incorrect data.

Other owners should look at the RCI website to make certain that their 'owned' units are being properly advertised and promoted to the general public -- or they won't get a good exchange on these owned units.

If we use SFX to bank our Carriage Hills Resort unit, we can only bank the 1 bedroom that sleeps 4. What happens with the Studio. Do we just lose it? From the information we have from our resort, Carriage Hills for maintenance fee payments, it looks like we have to bank the entire unit (1 bedroom and studio).

Can't we bank the 1 bedroom with SFX (because they don't take the studio) and use the studio ourselves at Carriage Hills next summer?

Am I missing something here in the translation for Carriage Hills Documentation/paperwork for banking?

really appreciate any guidance and assistance to do this right and make is a successful process for our family.

We have always stayed at our home base, Carriage Hills Resort because it all seems much more complicated than it should be to bank it with a company other than RCI.

Again, am i missing something here????

Maybe someone can point us in the right direction to make a success of our ownership in a timeshare.

YOu can reserved a 2 bedroom at Carriage HIlls and then banked the week in SFX. Do you need a 1 or 2 bedroom in Southern CA? If you need a 2 bedroom then banked the 2 bedroom Carraige HIlls with SFX. If you need 1, then banked 1 bedroom from Carriage Hills and deposit the studio in RCI. I have exchanged 1 bedroom Carriage Hills to Poni Kai (4th of July), Paninole (Sept), studio - Vistana Resorts Nov with RCI. I have exchanged 1 bedroom Carlsbad Inn in SFX for August.

MYIP: Many thanks for clarification on the process to deposit CH timeshare with SFX.

SFX has indicated that they do not take the studio (which sleeps 4) as a deposit. You mention that we could bank it with them!

Can we reserve 2 bedroom with CH and then just use the 1 bedroom to bank with SFX. Use the studio (other bedroom) at CH instead of having to bank it. Will CH permit us to use the studio in that way after banking with SFX and not RCI??

If we reserve with CH, bank with SFX, how does the name on the reservation at CH get changed and by whom? SFX?

What is our liability with someone else using our reserved week at CH?

Many thanks -=- just not certain how this process would work. I gather that one makes a reservation at their 'home' timeshare, then contacts either RCI, SFX, etc. to bank their reserved week(s). Correct?

Thanks for any further assistance.

At carraige hills, when you do your reservation. let them know that you want to lock off your 2 bedroom unit. You will have 2 reservation #. The week doesnot has to be the same. For example, you may want to travel in Dec, Christmas. You book your lockoff for Christmas. You then book your 1 bedroom in the summer to deposit into SFX. Once you book your 1 bedroom, you fill in a form in SFX and deposit it. SFX will do all the work of changing the week to another person. You can put a request at SFX for a 1 bedroom Southern CA week.

myip:

When do I notify CH of the week we want to bank.

Called SFX late today and they said that we have to notify CH that we want to bank our 1 bedroom with them.

I don't think CH will give us a summer say August reservation for or 1 bedroom if they realize that 1) we won't be going there ourselves because we intend to bank it
and
2) I don't think CH will be very helpful to see our 1 bedroom going to SFX instead of RCI for banking purposes.

So, I guess we pay MF first
book our lockoff as you recommended 1 bed summer and studio say xmas or whatever we choose.
Then a little later on contact SFX and deposit 1 bedroom with them for banking

Do we have to notify CH of this deposit with SFX at all?

What is the correct protocol/procedure for this?

I understood that CH just does not encourage or work very hard if you don't bank with RCI. In fact, I understood that CH expects owners to bank with RCI and no other timeshare company?

Just want to do the right thing, but have the timeshare work for us -- we did pay for it afterall!!!

Can you provide just a little more info?

Many many thanks,

Cynthia

I never did notify CH. I just filled up the form and deposit the week with SFX.
I did pay my MF before deposit any week.

Hi Cynthia,

Since you have a lock-off, SFX may have indicated they won't take the studio as a deposit meaning they won't take it on it's own. They most likely will take it when combined with the 1 bedroom - you should clarify this with them. I doubt that they would accept a 1 bedroom deposit but not a 2 bedroom at the same resort.

With SFX, you reserve your week with your home resort and then tell SFX you want to deposit with them. You give them your dates and confirmation number and they contact the resort.

With RCI, how you deposit depends on your home resort. You may have to either tell your resort you want to deposit with RCI and they take care of it, or reserve at your resort and then call RCI and tell them you want to deposit it. You will have to find out from your home resort how you deposit with RCI (if you ever decide to do it).

Hope this helps,
Colleen

Coleen: Just read your response to my questions. I will contact SFX to see if they would indeed take both the 1 bedrm and the studio as a full unit i.e. making it basically a 2 bedroom facility with lockoff priviledges.

RCI gets notified by us when we return our paperwork re: decision to either bank our unit(s) or use it ourselves and make a reservation for a time period we desire.

I really appreciate your knowledge and others who have responded generously to my questions and concerns.

Thanks tug members, much appreciated.
