I am taking a Carnival Cruise to Costa Maya & Cozumel in August and wondered if anyone has taken this cruise. The ship is Fantasy & leaves from New Orleans.

I have never been to Costa Maya & would appreciate any information as to what to do (or not), beaches, restaurants, etc.

My sister & I will be traveling with two children, 12 & 9.

We are considering shopping in Cozumel, any suggestions?

Thank you,
Rhonda

Costa Maya

Went to Costa Maya on a Royal Carib. cruise last year. We took the cruise line tour out to Chacchoben. My 2 teen sons were also with me. We really enjoyed the tour of the ruins. We found the people at the gift shop at the ruins much more open to "negotiation" than the folks at the shops where you come onshore from the ships. The boys loved the carved wooden masks. We were there in July and it was HOT and HUMID; just like home in the summer.

definitely check out cruisecritic's ports of call forum. There will be a forum for each of your ports, and all kinds of information about ship excursions vs booking them on your own, places to shop, etc.

You can also get some feedback on your ship, camp carnival, etc.

I appreciate the feedback & have read cruisecritics.

I was curious about transportation to Uvero Beach, availability & cost.
It seems there is a charge for access to the beach, how much?

The excursion is $39 per person.

Thanks again for the feedback.

Will you be anywhere near Tulum?

There is a WONDERFUL local touring agency that operates from the shopping plaza at Tulum. We were blessed to find out about them (via CruiseCritic) last year in time for our August trip to Cozumel/Calica.

Bonnie picked us up nearly at the ship and gave us a personal tour of the area including snorkeling in the jungle surrounded cenotes of Dos Ojos, snorkeling with sea turtles in a beautiful bay, and a wonderful lunch at a local favorite with tree houses overlooking the water. It was a GREAT way to spend a shore leave!!! :cheer:

I can not rave about them enough! It was so much more enjoyable than any ship arranged shore excursion I've ever been on, plus it was much more pocket-book friendly. There were 5 of us-- 2 parents, 2 teens and an 8 yo. I'd go back tomorrow if I could!

Their shop phone number (last year) was (984) 871 2209. edventuretours.com.mx
