I'm so excited. My 2 bedroom exchange came through for the Carlsbad Seapointe resort in May. However, it looks like there may also be some 2 bedrooms available at the Grand Pacific Palisades in June. I've read the reviews on both and both seem to be good resorts. Just wondering if you had your choice, which one would you choose. Since, we will be there in May / first part of June, probably will be too cold to go the beach, so I don't really think proximity to beach is too big of a deal for me.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Take Grand Pacific!

We live in Carlsbad so are quite familiar with all the timeshares here. Seapointe is across from the ocean and has the advantage of the view. However for grounds, location close to upscale discount mall, restaurants -- GPP is much nicer.

I agree that GPP would be the best choice. In May or June, the gorgeous flower fields just below the resort should be in bloom. The location is wonderful, and the resort is more comfortable (in my opinion) than Seapointe. They're both splendid resorts, but that's just my take on the options.

Thanks - I've got to call Hilton in the morning to confirm, so hopefully I can get the GPP.

Whoops on flower field blooms

Usually the flower field is in bloom late March thru early May. However this summer we have had so little sunshine, who knows what those little flower seeds in the ground are planning :)

Well, I called and was able to switch to GPP, go Saturday to Saturday (other one on hold was Sun - Sun) & push it off to mid-June. I am so excited. Thanks for the help, I have never been to California before. Now to figure out what to do while there. Any suggestions outside of the obvious (San Diego Zoo, Sea World, Legoland, etc...)

Legoland

Just got back from a week at Marriott Newport Coast - great weather and relaxing week. We spent a day at Legoland with 11 & 9 year old boys. They enjoyed the rides and sights, but would have been better suited for 7 & 5 year olds. The rides are short and not very thrilling as compared to Disney. I enjoyed the actual "Mini-land" with D.C., New York, Vegas, New Orleans and San Fran all done in Legos. We also did the waterpark, much the same in that it was fun, but definetly geared towards the younger kids.

GPP probably has a tour that takes you to Old Town, Coronado and downtown San Diego. Coronado is a place not to mliss. There is an old hotel, del Coronado, where presidents and movie stars have stayed. It sits on the ocean and has great restaurants in it plus small boutiques. You can google 'Hotel del Coronado' and take a peek. Coronado is a walking 'islalnd'.

Another tour they usually have is one to Hollywood and all the movies stars stuff. What types of things do you like to do while on vacation?

One word of warning - to drive all the way up to LA, tour, and drive back would make for a very long day, particularly if you were unlucky enough to hit traffic... which in LA is pretty common.

The things you suggested sound great. I like to go, go, go on my vacation. See as much as possible, but I am not an outdoorsy type of person, so hiking, taking in national parks, etc... is not really my thing.

I will be going with my parents (mid-50's) and my 11 year old niece. Probably won't do Legoland, but do want to go to Disneyland one day. Also, thought San Diego Zoo, maybe doing a Hollywood tour and not sure what else.

Right..We were in Carlsbad May 8-15, and the fields were still pretty beautiful. I agree that June might be a bit late...but when we stayed at GPP, the flowers weren't in bloom, but we still enjoyed it "muchly"...more than we enjoyed Seapointe, actually, where people tend to take the luggage carts into their units the night before they leave, so the early risers haul their belongings down making trip after trip. That is the first thing I remember when I think of Seapointe. We won't go back there.

I would definitely do Sea World in San Diego. The Wild Animal Park by Escondido is another good place to visit. You need to allocate a whole day to each place. Downtown San Diego is good. You can do a tour of the "Midway" aircraft carrier, Gaslamp area, Old Town, Seaport Village, etc. San Diego can keep you busy for a lot more than a week.
