We have this resort booked for March 2007. I've read most of the more recent reviews and would like to request a 3rd floor unit as recommended, but nothing I have read or the Carlsbad Inn Beach Resort website indicate whether there is an elevator at this resort.

Can anyone let me know if this resort has elevators.

TIA
JanB

JanB: I have owned at Carlsbad Inn for 21 years and live in Carlsbad; if I can answer questions, please let me know.

Yes, there are two elevators, one in each T/S building. Yes, they are often slow because the maintenance and housekeeping staff use them to move stuff, as well as competing with restaurant traffic from the garage if you are in the Elm Building (Sunday check-in).

Send me an email request, and I'll forward you a copy of my own "Tourist Guide" to our favorite things in the area.

We visited this resort this past March. Regarding the request for a third floor room: I took the advice of TUGgers and called a couple of weeks ahead to request a top floor unit. Unlike those who posted before me, I did NOT receive my requested unit. In fact, I was placed on the 1st floor, which is partially underground. However..... If we attended a timeshare presentation, we could get a free upgrade to the second or third floor AND received free tickets to the attraction of our choice (Sea World). So we elected to tour the Grand Pacific Palisades and got our 3rd floor unit. Of course we didn't buy. So, be prepared to "pay" for your room upgrade!!

The resort was great and there is so much to do in the area. We did all the touristy things and it had to be one of the busiest vacations we've ever had. The weather was cool in March. Met a former classmate who lives in Carlsbad now and he said you can tell the tourists at that time of year - they were the ones in shorts. The locals were wearing long pants and fleece jackets :)

We traded in there a couple of years ago liked it so much we bought a unit on the resale Market.

Best Restaurant to us hands down Fish House Vera Cruz which is a short walk from the Carlsbad Inn.

Last time we were in Carlsbad we ate at a great Mexican Restaurant La Expecial del Norte which was along the coastal highway in Leucadia. I had Octopus and my wife had the Tortilla Soup which was highly recommended.

If you are patient the elevotors are fine. They get really busy on checkin and check out days.

Thanks everyone for all the information. This is my first step in researching the vacation, so am printing everything for my file. And, thank you Cathyb and Neil - you have mail!

When you say you have a reservation, does that mean you are renting or exchanging. I did not see it listed in the t/s you own. We have an exchange for this August. I called the resort before confirming the exchange and was told (like stated above) that exchangers get the bottom floor units, unless they do a t/s presentation. I was told that the units were not all the same floorplan.

Having to go on the tour is a new twist from what I have experienced...if you do take the tour be sure to negotiate for lots of goodies....and buy resale of course. The tour is pretty low key and low pressure. Just say NO.

We were there in March of this year on an exchange. Requested third floor, near the elevator. Got third floor, near the elevator. The conceriege did try to get us to go to a presentation (after we were checked in) but we politely said no. She even gave my husband a free pizza coupon (and he's no looker, if you know what I mean). So I am confused.

We have an exchange in March next year. Maybe if you exchange in the off season, they are more accommodating. We are not adverse to presentations (except Shell Vacation Club), if the price is right :)
