I'm pretty sure I did. A couple weeks ago rates for the last week of June were nice, but I thought I'd do better on priceline. So far it has not taken my offers and the prices on the car websites have tripled. Any options?
I see National offers last minute good deals, but I'll have to hope they offer them next week. So far they are valid only throught June 24 and I leave after that.
Help.

Also check out www.flyertalk.com for some of their car rental deals. Click on "forums"; then transportation (or car rentals). I"ve gotten some of my best prices due to tips on that site.

This is an "after the fact" suggestion, and just something to keep in mind for next time. If you see a good rate, make the reservation. You can always cancel it later. Then look for a better price on priceline, or elsewhere. If you find something that beats the reservation price you already have, great. Cancel your reservation. If not, you've got a back up.

Where are you going? I'm kind of in the same situation except, like Luanne suggested, I do have a reservation in hand. this year's rental price has been really high for Kauai where I'll be visiting from June 28-July 5. In the past, I could easily get a weekly rental for under $200 for a mid-sized car, with or without the help of priceline. This year, I started checking on priceline a month ago and my biddings of $16-20 have all been rejected.

Do a google search for "American Casino". Their coupons seem to be the best so far, at least for Kauai. Shoot me a email if you could not find it.

Oh, you are all a blessing! I checked the links. One of them led me to an agency I hadn't known about (Advantage). It offers a shuttle service. Got a cheap rate like I was willing to pay.
Thank you thank you.
DH was surprised the price was up at the major companies at the airport. He thinks there is a national sporting event that week so that could be why the rates were jacked.

Are you looking for a car rental for a week that includes July 4? That's got to be one of the peek weeks for Hawaii travel.

Yes, but the week before or after is just as expensive...We went to Kauai last year during similar period of time and the weekly rental for a SUV was under $200.

You got lucky. You managed to find a great deal last year.

Don't leave it at that. If you have to do Advantage, go ahead. But they normally are understaffed, and have all kinds of administrative problems. Last time I rented from them (on Oahu), I waited an hour and a half in their office until they finally had my car ready to rent. I remember having a lot of other difficulties with them, and personally, I'll never rent from them again.

LOL I don't know why you all think I am going to Hawaii. I am going to Minneapolis. It turns out the US Women's Open starts the day after I arrive and ends the day before I leave, so cars could be at a premium.
I have plenty of cushion time but don't expect problems.
