I booked my Florida car rental about 7 months ago for our trip that is coming up on Sunday and the best rate I could get for 14 days was $768.61. I just went on Costco and I was able to score a nicer vehicle for only $436.76... I'm a happy camper... I can not wait to be in Naples this Sunday, I need warm weather so badly...

Thanks so much, I hope you and your wife are doing well and enjoying the warmth of Hawaii...

Yes, we definitely are. It's been almost 3 years and I haven't worn a coat yet. :)

Scoring a deal on a car will help you enjoy your time in the fun and sun. Hopefully, the really bad weather will hold off until after you leave. :D

Between Costco Travel and Autoslash, several months ago I scored a decent rate for a convertible for our trip to Florida next April. Rate is still lower than current rates (I just checked) so I'm happy to stay with what I have. But I still check a few times a week.

I did the same thing for our trip to Hawaii a few weeks ago, and by the time the trip came up, I'd cut the price more than in half, over what it was initially. It worked out pretty well.

Autoslash does work, (sometimes), but you have to stay on top of things.

We cut the Florida price almost in half, based on the initial outrageous price. Current price is still higher than I'd like, but given it's Florida in Spring, it's about as good as I'm likely to see. I'll keep checking, and hope things go lower in the next few months.

@DaveNV , I was shocked that this close to my trip that my price for 14 days would drop so significantly...I hope you can get a lower price, but I agree Florida in Spring is fabulous...We are headed to the Hyatt in Key West in March and I will now be searching for god rates for that trip

We'll be at a B&B in Key West at the beginning of April, just before our cruise. Really looking forward to that whole trip. It's our first big new-to-us scenery adventure since before Covid started. :D

No, sorry. We're spending a few days in KW, then driving back up to Fort Lauderdale for the cruise departure.

It really does pay to keep checking rental car prices. Back in the summer when it appeared we wouldn't be allowed to drive to Florida on the 22nd of October I began looking for rentals. We were going for 3 weeks so I knew it was going to be expensive. The first prices I was getting were between $1800 & $2000. Cndn for a subcompact! Yikes! I checked almost daily and when the prices were barely dropping we decided that we could take public transit (Orlando Lynx and Greyhound) from MCO and for the first 2 weeks, then just rent a car for 8 days to get from St. Augustine to palm Coast. Even that short timeframe was much more than we had ever paid for a car rental.

Finally just 5 days before we were flying down I found a great deal with Economy Bookings. I saw a compact car for the whole 3 weeks for $649. Cndn. I booked it quick and we were ecstatic! Two days later I see an email from Economy Bookings and thought Oh No, I knew that price was too good to be true. Instead it was a note from them saying there had been a further price drop and they had credited $70. Cndn back to our credit card. Now we had a 3 week rental for $480. Cndn taxes and fees included! When we got to MCO and the rental desk the guy told DH he had upgraded us to a mid-sized car at no charge. Since our adult DD had decided to join us for our last week the extra space was welcomed. I will be looking at Economy Bookings first the next time!
