After a lot of back and forth, I am finally able to relinquish my ownership of my timeshare. For context, I have had it for several years and it is paid off. I am tired of dealing with Capital Vacations and them trying to get me to buy more just to give me access to their program since they bought out RCI. They stated I must pay a one-time processing fee of $480 to CV and then a relinquishment fee of $1530.53 to the resort HOA. Has anyone gone through this and can confirm before I mail off the checks? I am supposed to send them to Kelly Hall, Deeding Coordinator with CV. Thanks in advance for your insight.

Capital Vacations acquired VRI (Vacation Resorts Int'l), not RCI.

yes capital resorts charges a fee to surrender back many ownerships, as long as you are dealing directly with capital vs some random 3rd party, you should be fine.

they have not been back since making that post.

however the results of a surrender program can vary from month to month especially at the end of the year. best bet is to reach out and ask! costs nothing to try!

My wife and I can verify that this program works.

We received today the recorded deed removing us as the owners of the week and the notification of closing of our account with Capital Vacations. We had no mortgage and the maintenance fees were current. We did pay a fee to the timeshare and a processing fee to Capital Vacations.

The process was straightforward and took about a month once we made contact.

I"ll also add that we would not have known of this option had I not stumbled onto TUG via a Google search while exploring options to end our timeshare ownership.

Thanks to those who administer, maintain and contribute to this site.

very happy you found TUG vs an exit scammer that would have charged you thousands! and that capital is at least still taking SOME resorts back in 2024!

was the resort you gave back la costa? or a different one? figured many folks would want to know!

Question...if I want to relinquish my Capital Vacation Points and I have the 150K for this year and the 150K for next year showing on my dashboard, can I use some of this year points and still relinquish by the end of this year?

that would be a question to ask when you reach out to capital resorts and inquire about the deedback program.

Hi;
Capital vacations have stated that they will relinquish my two timeshare weeks at their resort.
They want me to send one check to them for fees, etc. and one directly to the resort.
There is no mention of an escrow account or any safeguards for me and my money.
How can I be sure they will not take the money and not follow through with the transaction?
Any information appreciated.
Thank you!

What was the fee? I did a Quit Claim Deed to remove my name and the joint owner now has sole ownership. I am wondering what the resort charges?

We have been attempting to reach out to our timeshare company for a couple of years to relinquish the timeshare. After leaving numerous voicemails asking for a call back, we received a letter in the mail instructing us to send $480 one-time processing fee and a $2,370 payable to the timeshare company. We just mailed the letter, a copy of the deed, and both checks via certified mail. I'm crossing my fingers we'll receive something back in the mail soon. The entire process has been extremely frustrating.

That's a lot of cash for a giveback.

I have been trying to give away a week 52 at Foxrun and have considered a deedback myself.

Was that a year of MF's you paid in the $2,370?

I haven't even used mine yet and now trying realize, it's a scam. I went on a trip to Kissimmee, Florida. Got talked into a time share and put 1850 down on a time share. I told him the main places I visit were Dallas and Las Vegas. 125000 points on there not resorts (main page) is worth like 325 dollars. My monthly payment is basically 300 dollars. None of the locations I want I can really go to point wise. Will cancelling be cheaper if you put down a big down payment, or does that mean nothing?

unfortunately your ability to cancel is tied specifically to your sales contract and or the state you bought in. Floridas cancellation period is 10 days.

if you are within the 10 days, you should rescind immediately (like tonight).

if you are outside the 10 days, you can still try but there is no real good option for you other than to become a very squeaky wheel on social media, phone and email (especially if you havea proof you were lied to)....or to stop paying.

Please do keep us updated. My Dad (81 yo) got suckered this summer in Branson. They told him they would take TWO of his deeded weeks and give him points. So far, I can only see they took ONE! The BEST one he could have sold it for something. Landmark PCB 2rb 2 bath 4th of July week! The other one had a VERY common name, and I am sure they thought it was at a different location, (Seaside) I think I looked up the name and there is a Seaside in NC and one in FL. They probably thought it was one of those and when they found out it wasn't they didn't take it. I have tried to help him and told him to NEVER go on a presentation and if he did, he needed to Call me. I felt like I could couch him OUT of it. Well, he didn't even want to tell me he did it AND IT WAS AFTER THE RECITION period. So, what he has now from what I can tell is 303,000 points every year. The mf's I'm just not sure of. (looks like $4XX.00 something per month but like I said I'm not sure) So NOT ONLY did he buy into this for XXX amount of $$$ he still paying mf's on the Seaside place they were supposed to take back.
Can someone who has successfully gotten out of CAPITAL VACATIONS GIVE ME SOME HEADS UP. Like whom to call contact? TIA
