This is such a LONG thread that has gone on for years. This is the message I receive now when I try to access it: Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 33554432 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 11777 bytes) in /home/tugbbsc/public_html/forums/showthread.php on line 1275 Am I doing something wrong? Thanks.

I have no problem accessing that thread.
Your post brought up a good question though - is there a size limit to any thread? If so, maybe it's time to start a second one...

I don't have a problem either.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

It there is a size limit on threads it has not been reached with this one.

This error is usually when the PHP hasn't allocated enough memory to vBulletin.

Since I'm not receiving the error, this was likely a point in time issue when you tried to access the thread.

 that is the thread Carolyn and LisH and referring to...

anytime I get asked about the history, issues, ongoings, future plans for WSJ-VGV - not too mention links to all the trip reports... or things to do in StJ, etc - I refer them to this thread.

Yes, it is huge, but if it discontinues it will eventually be lost. Besides... I make an effort to keep it up (and have ~10% of the posts ;)), and has helped many that I know about, and probably more that I do not based on the huge amount of views.

Carolyn - let us know if you still can't access. Here is the link to the last 2 posts (long) - I split them up. It is the latest letter from Bob & Phil

Anyone else having issues opening the WSJ Thread?
Anyone reading this? :D

Yeah, I knew that but thought I'd put the link in just in case others didn't know.

David,
No problem reading those 2 threads. So what am I doing wrong? I will admit I am not much of a techie, however I haven't had this problem before.
Thanks.

Ryan,
I have no idea what you are talking about, however I am open to suggestions on how to fix it :crash:
Thanks.

What I was trying to say (and did in a non-elegant fashion) was that this error is usually a server-side error -- PHP is a server-side scripting language -- so it is something that is typically beyond user/client control.

The only thing I can think of is to try a different browser. It is possible that your browser is somehow causing the server to throw an error when processing your request.

I'm no expert, but I tried 3 different browsers and can't seem to come up with the same error that you are receiving.

Good luck.

I think Ryan still isn't helping you... 1st step is to try a different browser - they are free and plentiful - and relatively easy to download. What browser are you using now? PC or Mac?
{Robin and I switched over to Macs recently - what a learning curve...}

SVO TUG traffic seems to be way down (I guess we have solved all the issues and answered all the questions) - so I do not know how many people are even looking at the SVO forum anymore. Only about 300 views since I posted the recent HOA letter a few days ago.

I have a PC using Firefox. I tried Internet Explorer and received the same message. I have never received this message before on any other TUG thread. David, as I mentioned in a previous email, I was able to read your posts with the link you provided above....so frustrating! I appreciate everyone's help and suggestions.

I'm using IE and when I have a problem with a website I try it on google chrome. I can usually get in places with that which I can't on IE.

Heyyyy....Steep learning curves are good, it's shallow learning curves that are bad (learning curves descend from left to right). Most people, the mainstream media included, get this exactly backwards.

Damn... you could try Chrome. Otherwise, either it is your internet provider, or not enough memory allocated to the web-browser or your anti-virus software (unlikely, but I am not so techno about these things).
Who is your ISP provider?
Have you checked how much available memory you have on your PC?

someone smarter about these things will need to chime in...

Glad you got it resolved (at least partly resolved) - weird that it also happens on iPad (???). Is that with Safari on iPad? Did you try it on something like Perfect Browser on iPad?
If so, I would suspect your ISP (but no expert)

I just tried using Safari on my iPad - opened WSJ thread with no problem (not signed in)

Yes, Safari. But had to use TapaTalk to view. Could not access thread on either wireless or 3G setting on my ipad just using the conventional TUG website....go figure??? I have a lot of catching up to do, especially all your posts David. :whoopie:
