We will be in Cancun Dec 8-15 at Club International de Cancun (VCI). IF we decide to attend a TS presentation, which ones offer the best gifts, worse/least amount of pressure?

Will any other tuggers be there at this time?

The only Royal Resort "presentation" that I know of is they to try and get you to sit down one on one with a sales person. They'll also like to take you down to see their new resort in Playa del Carmen, the Haciendas. At best it's over breakfast or lunch. It's the only timeshare selling I have witnessed, but on the pressure scale I'd say almost none by my experience. So if you don't have any interest in their resorts I wouldn't spend the time for a buffet.

It seems a gift would need to be huge to spend vacation time with a shark of the human variety.

Royal Resorts timeshare presentations

As Buceo points out, the Royal Resorts may offer to take you to the Haciendas for the day and treat you to brunch/lunch. Go for it, and you have the option, choose the lunch buffet at the Haciendas. Brunch there or at the Sands is very good, but the Haciendas lunch is even better.

The Royals don't have to apply pressure - their timeshares will sell out without it. It's *possible* that you might get a new and overenthusiastic sales person, but that's not generally the case.

As far as other timeshares go, watch out for some that will try to sign you up at the airport and will want you to pay a deposit. DO NOT pay a deposit. People have gotten burned doing this.

Also watch out for some places that will claim to be Royals - the only real Royals are VCI (also known as Club International de Cancun), Royal Sands, Royal Mayan, Royal Caribbean, Royal Islander, and Royal Haciendas. The "Royal Hotel" and "Royal Sunset", among others, are not Royal Resorts.

Some friends went on a presentation at the Moon Palace - lots of pressure and promises, to which they said no - but they did enjoy a nice lunch and nice day at the pool.

I would decribe it like this, in general value of gifts and level of pressure rise together.

Royal Resorts will show you around, buy you a meal, and give you a modest gift like a beach bag and that comes without the boiler room sales pitch. (They'll still try to sell you, they just won't get pushy about it.)

Other outfits will offer more expensive gifts (tour tickets to Chichen Itza, etc.) and in some cases cash money but know what you're getting in to.

I usually refuse to do sales tours. But we let ourselves be captured at the airport and forked over $50 per person to the Moon Palace--and it was great!

They gave us taxi fare to and from our resort (Mayan Palace, about $30 each way), plus buffet breakfast preceding the pitch. Our "gifts" for attending were a full day at their all-inclusive resort where we could do anything except spa treatments, plus four excursions of our choice. We chose Chichen Itza, speedboats, ATVs and Isla Mujeres party boat. They refunded our $50 each the minute we got to the resort. All of the excursions except Isla Mujeres included pick-up at the front gate of the Mayan Palace which was a big benefit to us. There were four of us adults so those excursions were worth many hundreds of dollars. (We met another person at the resort where we were staying who said he had held out and got FIVE excursions) Our sales tour was no more pressure than most, and we really really really enjoyed our all-inclusive day, to the point where my husband said he could never stay a full week there or he would kill himself with food and booze.

We also took a tour of the Mayan Palace the following week so that other friends could get golf. We got $100. We all got breakfast but the sales room was so chaotic that it took so long for our rep to get assigned to us, that by the time we got to the restaurant the breakfast was technically over and we had to rush to fill up a plate. Then, very tacky, the rep asked us to leave a tip for the waiter. Our friends said the golf was okay but not that great. The Mayan Palace sales pitch was MUCH higher pressure than the Moon Palace, way longer, with wave after wave of sales people/managers hitting us until we got fed up and got rude in return. I would never take a Mayan Palace tour again:mad: (and we are Mayan Palace owners, resale :cheer: of course!).

We fully intend to let ourselves get kidnapped by Moon Palace again at the airport when we go back in December:whoopie:
