Cancelling Marriott timeshare reservation

What options do I have (if any) if I can not keep a previously booked reservation from an Interval exchange? I am about 40 days out from its start. Thanks.

I'm not sure, but I wanted to share that I just checked into a 3 bedroom Marriott Aruba Surf Club unit yesterday via a last minute cancellation on II. While on vacation in Dubai last week via Groupon, I decided to check II with an AC that was expiring in July. Well, I stopped whatever I was doing and snatched this 3 bedroom unit! It is amazing. I used SkyMiles to get $500 off the airfare. When we checked in yesterday the Welcome Agent could not believe that we were in a 3 bedroom on an exchange via II. This has all been said to say that even last minute bookings can be found. We've been exchanging into the Surf Club yearly via II, but never into a three bedroom. Our view from this corner unit on the 12th floor is amazing.

That is great for you but that literally has nothing at all to do with the question that was asked.

You reference an II exchange so it does not fall to a Marriott cancellation. It is all up to II and you have options. You can cancel alltogether and receive a flex restricted replacement week or you can re-exchange for something else subject to the flex window. You should call II and explore your options.

II always tells me about adding trip insurance to my exchange, and that can be added up to a day before travel. I don't know the reason for you needing to cancel but if it's an illness or something that could be covered by insurance, that's another option. I believe they put a maximum value on the exchanged week at $1000 which wouldn't cover the exchange fees for most high end resorts.

You cannot add trip insurance a day before travel to cover a known illness and then file a claim. The insurance doesn't even cover any illness or injury that exhibited any symptoms 120 days prior to purchasing the plan. Insurance companies are very reluctant to pay out claims based on anything except clear and obvious unpredictability.

Well that makes sense. Too bad they don't spell that out. I always tell the rep anyway that I like Eplus a lot better. No explanations or paperwork needed.

I cannot speak on how II does this but I have canceled RCI reservations, they give back the week at lower TPU and keep the exchange fee. Since fees are going up in June, I'm going to be extra careful about making exchanges and trying not to cancel.

In II you can cancel the reservation and receive a replacement week. However, because you are within 60 days it will be a flex trade, so it will have restrictions. Also, you will have to pay the exchange fee again.

I see, I deposited a week late by their standards and though it is good for two years I have to make an exchange just 60 days away. I'm waiting til it gets closer to go somewhere new. We have 6 places already thru RCI and 2 private exchanges. On the go in the fall!

This is why E-Plus is so extremely valuable.
