You can obtain a cancellation replacement week. You lose the exchange fee and will have to pay another exchange fee to use it again. It will be restricted to Flexchange.

Is the exchange with an enrolled Marriott week?

Then you have a few other options. You will be perpetually stuck in Flexchange. If you are on top of things, you can just keep retrading your week (Marriott to Marriott/Vistana) into placeholder exchanges until you find what you want. You will need to do this before checkin of the next exchange and preferably outside of 14 days from checkin. This means you need to do this at least every 45-59 days. It can be tedious, but it will retain the original deposit expiration. By cancelling and taking a cancellation replacement, the new deposit will expire one year from the date you cancel.

To add, if you also paid an upgrade fee to do the initial exchange. Doing retrades will retain the larger unit and new retrades won't incur additional upgrade fees. I understand, but don't know for sure, that the cancellation replacement goes back to the unit size of the original deposit and upgrade fees paid are forfeited.

Will the replacement week still have the trading power of the Original 1 BR Harbour Lake Unit?…I used a week that will expire in May 2026.

Yes, it should retain the original trade power. Your issue is that the cancellation replacement will expire now in September 2025 instead of May 2026.

That should be no problem…

Since this is an enrolled week with free M to M/V exchanges, you can retrade instead of cancelling to keep the original expiration date for added flexibility. I recommend confirming if the flexchange window is 30 days or 60 days given that check-in is in 3 weeks and go with the option (cancel or retrade) that gives you 60 days.

Retrade window should still be 59 days as it's 14 days or more from checkin. Once inside 14 days it will be a 30 day restriction. Though that restriction is pretty easy to bust out of as you can just retrade for something 14 days or more. Then once the new exchange is outside 14 days, you are no longer limited to the 30 day restriction and instead in the 59 day Flexchange period.

To do a retrade right now..interval only allows me to go out to Nov.2..are you sayingto find a retrade in late October..early November..then do another retrade like late December?..and keep doing retrades?..THATS a better option than cancelling?

If going the retrade route, you would do the first retrade out as far as you can. As you say it should be early November. Then when you get to about three weeks out from that new date, do another retrade. This becomes tedious and if you forget to do a retrade you can get yourself into trouble.

You can also do a combination of both. Retrade out as far as you can, then more than 14 days from checkin do your cancellation. This will extend the expiration to sometime in October 2025. It all depends on when you may want to use the week.

To be clear, the replacement week will be a week in II to exchange.
Not giving you at week at Harbour lake to stay in.
I say thins because you say “we have no issues using what we own”.

I agree with all that dioxide says.
The only way to get out of flexchange would be be make a retrade, buy eplus and use all your epluses in succession so your reservation is further than 60 days ahead and then cancel outside of glexchange do your replacement week is not restricted.

I see your point..We haven’t been to Harbour Lake in about 15 years..We are both retired now and have the flexibility to travel anytime we like…having a 60 day window does limit availability..that being said…I have seen a many great trades “pop up” within 2 months of arrival..we have a year to find another exchange…we have patience and flexibility..thanks for the reply.

Sad to say…I just cancelled our exchange into a 2BR 2BA OV Villa at the Aruba Ocean Club for the first week of October 2024.

Can you double check to confirm that any new exchanges with the cancellation replacement have a $0 exchange fee? I believe it does. I understand that for unenrolled weeks in an individual II account, the cancellation replacement doesn't get the discounted exchange fee of $164.

Yes..I can confirm that any new exchanges with the replacement week has a $0 exchange fee…I used my studio HL..not the 1 BR like i first said to exchange into a 1 BR OV at the Ocean Club…a few weeks later I upgraded to a 2BR Villa…when I look for exchanges now..all 2BR exchanges show a $0 exchange fee…including non Marriot..Westin..and Sheraton resorts.

No unit size upgrade fees? That is certainly good and means the cancellation replacement retains the size of the unit you traded into and not the original deposit. I've seen conflicting reports about this.
