I've had this card for many years, and justified the $99/yr cost because they give a free checked bag for the primary cardholder and up to 4 companions. I haven't traveled with Delta in a couple of years, but kept the card. I just got an email that advised the fee is going up to $149/yr. They added a few benefits that I won't use. I guess a lot of people are trying to cancel because I've been on hold for 45 minutes now and they are experiencing "longer than usual" wait times.

Also got the email. We've had the card for 17 years...likely quite a ding to credit score if we canx. But, I agree, for us, worthless "enhancements." We'll call and see if we can downgrade the card.

They will convert it to a no fee card as well. It is just the skymiles blue card. Still get miles but no hit to credit score and no annual fee

I know peep who fly enuff that premium CC fees are worth it.
These days, we fly once a year and check one bag for us both.
So for us, it makes more sense to only carry cash-back cards.

I have the Skymiles Reserve card which gives me access to the Delta Skyclubs. Very nice benefit and while the card is expensive, it is still a little less the the Skyclub membership fee. Now they did reduce the number of visits to 15 per year, but I would say if you are visiting more often than that, you probably have status with Delta and might not need this card. I recently switched from using primarily American Airlines to fly from DCA to MCO and started using Delta for the same itinerary. The flight costs are similar, but Delta lets me upgrade to First for a mere 15K miles (roundtrip) while American does not have such a benefit.

I got the same email message, but was already planning to cancel at renewal since I don't fly that often and rarely on DL. I just got the card again this year for the free bags for a couple of trips I have had recently.

Does this "blue card" come with free bags . . . and is it AmEX or something else?

It is an am ex. It does not have free bags. It earns miles, can pay with miles, 20% back on inflight purchases, Car rental loss & damage waiver and premium car rental protection
Really zero value . . . for zero fee I suppose. I'll be cancelling since the only reason I got the card (again) was to get free bags on DL.

Had this card for years. This price raise and Delta’s exorbitant redemption requirements for flights means Bye Bye.

We live in a Delta hub city, so we fly with them frequently, but the "enhanced benefits" are useless to us. I'll keep the card until we've used up our miles with "cash for miles", and then will probably cancel.

When Delta seriously degraded their SkyMiles ff program and I comped my elite status over to NW, I dumped my personal DL Amex gold card almost immediately, but kept my business card for a while, then dumped it, too. The Amex cards were decent cards at the time and had some of the best rental car insurance around. I had incidents of damage to rental cars in France and in Greece, where dealing with the rental car company was a breeze when I turned the car in due to that rental car insurance. I had heard horror stories of some other rental car insurance through credit cards, but fortunately, the only times I had to use it was cars I had rented on Amex.
