Has anyone stayed recently at the Canada House or Lighthouse Resort in Pompano Beach? Was looking at these resorts but haven't seen many recent reviews. Thanks for any and all!!!

I've stayed at LHC in Sept 2006. I own 3 units there, and stop by to see what is happening there whenever in South Florida with a little time to spare.

Since Wilma did a number on it, they have done extensive work to revitalize it. It is looking real nice. The location can't be better - right on the ocean. Toured Canada House (whiel attending a RCI sales pitch) but wasn't impressed with what I saw.

I haven't stayed at either but ate breakfast at Canada House 2 years ago. They have an outdoor tiki hut and charged a ridiculous 2.49 for a complete breakfast (was it eggs/toast/sausage/hashbrowns) type of thing. We were staying across the street at the Santa Barbara Yacht Club.

I can tell you the location is very nice.

If you drive south down A1A a few miles you will be in the heart of Ft. Lauderdale beach area. You can easily find the Bahia Mar Yacht Club where you can catch the Water Bus, formerly known as the Water Taxi. Actually there are about 18 places where you can catch the Water Bus, like a bus it has a route that you can take for about $5, unlimited rides per day. Very informative and more flexible than the Jungle Queen. I always encourage people staying in the area to try the Water Bus. You'll see the beautiful intra-coastal homes of the Rich & Famous and have a chance to get out and relax at any number of waterfront bars & restaurants.

Good luck with whatever you choose and have a fun vacation!

:D Although we didn't stay at either, we didn't care for the appearance of either one nor Pompano itself. However, if you need to choose one over the other...stay at Lighthouse.....it looks better. Have fun.

www.watertaxi.com and the Broward County Commissioners are at odds as to how to continue helping fund this public transportation.

Currently, several of the water taxi buses are docked by the www.rusticinn.com and only a few continue their routes.

Price is now $10.00 a day, unlimited, no weekly $20.00 rate anymore (may change), and you need to check the website for new times...most stops along the almost 4 hour route continue, but many less arrivals.

They continued the two times a week run from Ft Laud to the Diplomat Resort in Hollywood, and then on to Maimis' South Beach....also takes a while...think $18.00 R/T.

The closest stop to Pompano for the water taxi is at the Shooters, Charlies Crab, Taverna Opa right by Oakland Park Blvd ICB. There is a municipal parking garage there...BUT MAKE SURE you get the times for the last boat back to Charlies Crab-Shooters. (Not free parking, I think $1.00 an hour)

From that point, the trip is all the way down to the Convention Cener (17th St Causeway, and west to the Pref Arts Center/Sony 3D theater, and Discovery Museum....just remember...its not the fastest mode of transportation.

BTW....any of the two mentioned above are ON THE BEACG, and IMO are good standards. I think La Costa HOA is about to vote on the continuance of their property as a timeshare... I have a feeling the propety is worth many millions....

We were in Fort Lauderdale last week at FT Lauderdale Beach Resort, water taxi leavs from Doubletree Hotel on Sunrise. The biggest surprise is the Broward Cty Bus System you can go anywhere for a dollar .50 if your over 65. Went to Pompano by bus of course to see what progress is being made at La Costa Beach Club where we own and was shocked to see repairs at a virtual standstill we were told the adjusters wont release the rooms for repair can you imagine the amount or mold and mildew in these rooms. If any one knows what is going on there I would apprecieate knowing. If the Lighthouse is the one two doors down we walked thru thier pool area and they seemed to be having a great time.
