Can you gain Elite status via HGVC (HIGVC) Resale?

I recently purchased a platinum fixed week (worth 7000 points) resale unit through the HGVC scotland and they said if I purchased another resale unit worth 7000 points, I would be able to claim Elite status. Anyone know if this is true? Also, how early do I have to release the fixed week to use the 7000 points instead for reservations?

Some affiliate resale offices can make a sale that qualifies for elite, its been done in the past. You have to ask yourself if the paltry benefits of elite are worth the higher resale prices through the resort.

Cancellation of the fixed reservation follow the same rules as any cancel, no point loss up to 30 days prior to check in. You probably want to do it early enough to secure another booking, but some people leave it to the last minute then end up saving the points to the next year. HGVC makes out on all the fees.

Originally, HIGVC was just an affiliate of HGVC. Back then, making sure the points were properly credited to your HGVC account was a bit of a pain, frequently requiring a phone call to straighten it out.

Around 2011 or 2012, HIGVC was fully merged into HGVC. The transition took a few years, but they're now a part of the HGVC corporate structure. If Richard McIntosh or his crew at HIGVC tell you that the points qualify for elite, I would believe them.

I also own a unit at Craigendarroch Scotland. In the last couple of years, those points are now fully merged and accounted for in my online HGVC account (I also own Flamingo). The fixed week reservation shows up about 2 years in advance. You can release it by simply cancelling the reservation online, which will then credit the points into your account; but not until about a year in advance. That's OK, because you can't use the points until then anyway. I now find it very straightforward and easy to use -- unlike the hassle it was 5 or more years ago. It's little different than using any HGVC owned property in the US.

BLUES is 100%correct on the ease of use of HIGVC points.

I can also confirm that as an owner of entirely points purchased resale and mostly from HIGVC Coylumbridge we were granted Elite status.

We don't use the elite status a lot but it does come in handy with waived transaction fees and reduced rate bonus time.
