I'm negotiating an acquisition of a HGVC property with 10,000 "Saved ClubPoints - 2021" points (saved from 2020).

Can the seller or I (if things close before the end of 2021), convert these 10,000 points to Hilton Honors before they expire?

My seller called HGVC and they told them only current year's points can be converted to Hilton Honors, but I wanted to double check with you guys...

You have the correct information. You can use those points to book something before Dec 31, but that would be tough if your just starting to purchase process. I don't really use RCI, but i think it possible to deposit those into RCI for a fee.

Yes, RCI is an option, I know that. Just wanted to double check the HH caveat.

Found the confirmation in the official club reference:

> Hilton Honors Conversion for Following Year Use. Prior to December 31, 11:59 PM ET of the current year, eligible Members may convert any or all of the next year’s allotment of ClubPoints into Hilton Honors Points at the current ratio of 1 ClubPoint to 25 Hilton Honors Points for a fee. For example, 5,000 ClubPoints = 125,000 Hilton Honors Points. The converted Points will be deposited into the Member’s Hilton Honors account the first week of January of the following year.

Bummer.

You're getting a quick education in HGVC rules.
The system is so complex that sometimes the practicalities get lost.

Saved points can't be used for anything other than HGVC or RCI.
If you don't close before 12/31, ask the seller to deposit them to RCI.
.

You can use the saved points to make a Hilton reservation, but you have to call member services to do it. You cannot convert the saved points directly.

Do you mean making a **Hilton hotel** reservation using HGVC points by calling **HGVC** member services?

Its all in the Club Rules, page 10.

Conversion for Immediate Hilton Honors Reservations. Prior to December 31, 11:59 PM Eastern Time (“ET”) of the current year, Members may convert any number of their current year or next year’s allotment of ClubPoints into Hilton Honors Points at the conversion ratio of one (1) ClubPoint to twenty (20) Hilton Honors Points for a current
year reservation at a Hilton branded hotel.

For example, 2,000 ClubPoints = 40,000 Hilton Honors Points. Reservations must be confirmed at the time of conversion and travel dates completed within the current year.

Yes, you can use your HGVC points to make a hotel reservation before they expire. You can also dump them into RCI for a fee.

I know that there is also a fee to make a Hilton hotel reservation. But does anyone know if you can make this hotel reservation and then cancel the reservation thereby getting your HH pts into your account?

I think that's the trick. I don't think they can put the club points back into your account once they are deposited into the HHonors system. Not 100% sure, though.

,
I do not recall paying a fee to make a Hilton reservation using my HGVC points, but I am HGVC Elite and Hilton LT Diamond, so the status may have an impact.

I agree, thats the workaround, but its the worst conversion ratio so a last ditch effort.

I had 2040 pts dying this year, made an instant RCI reservation, one week at HGV Bay Club next May, 3400 pts. score.

Very helpful thread as my 4,160 saved '20 CP were at risk of going unused or needing to pay RCI to park them...

Just got off the phone with HGV and was told saved '20 CP cannot be used for hotel reservations this year - what they were able to do was use the saved '20 club points for completed 2021 stays, thus changing all my unused points into current year points - first time experience for me, and was very appreciative of the CSR

Wow, CS was able to swap 2020 saved points into completed 2021 HGVC stays. I have never heard that done before nor even thought that was possible.

Oh, so it means a completed 2021 HGVC stay originally booked with 2021 points, was modified to use saved 2020 points, therefore releasing the 2021 points, making them savable for 2022?

Yes - saved ‘20 CP were from a cancelled 2021 reservation, and they were able to manually apply them retroactively to a completed 2021 reservation to free up 2021 club points. Made my day!

Thanks, learn something new here. I always try to manage my yearly points, but I will remember this in case something strange should happen.
