Can you augment VIP status by purchasing resale points?

I am considering purchasing additional Wyndham points and would like to know if those points will augment my current ownership or will not have the same status and benefits associated with them as I didn't buy them from the sponsor? Any suggestions as where I can go for information about the integration of secondary market purchases with the existing ownership?

The answer to your question is a simple no. Resale points never count toward any Wyndham status - only developer purchased points. If you are a current VIP owner and purchase resale points - you will become what we affectionately call a hybrid VIP owner - with two separate pointe buckets. Developer and resale points buckets will display in your account and you have to choose which points bucket to use when searching for resort availability and when making reservations. VIP benefits do not apply to resale points or transactions.

I am hybrid with developer and resale points. I rent out the developer points with the discounts. This makes it easier to rent because it is much cheaper than a hotel and it covers my maintenance fees and use the resale points for myself which I would never have done without the rentals. If I did not rent, I would never have bought.

You can certainly buy more resale points and they can "pool" together in your account to make one big reservation if you need to, but any time you mix resale and retail points, you lose any and all VIP privileges.

But look at it this way, if you didn't have those points, you wouldn't be able to make the reservation anyway. I am a so called "hybrid" owner and it's not a big deal at all. Definitely way cheaper than buying from Wyndham, with literally zero downside.
