I live just down the street from the Marriott Grand Dunes in Myrtle Beach. I am thinking of buying a week at this location if I would be able to use the facility all year round. Does anyone know if this allowed?

Are Their Lips Moving When Then Tell You Day Use Is OK ?

You could call'm up & ask.

Sometimes the timeshare sellers tell prospective buyers that they can enjoy year-round "day use" of the facilities at the timeshares the timeshare sellers are trying to sell. Frequently, however, maybe even usually, the timeshare sellers are just making that up.

It's easy to see why "day use" is a problem for the resort. The timeshare & its features & amenities & facilities are built to accommodate the maximum number of people who would would be there if all the units were occupied at full capacity. Adding some unknown number of "day use" people to all those full-capacity checked-in people could be expected to overtax & overcrowd the pool & the lounge & the game room & the exercise room & the tennis courts & the spa & the parking lot & I don't know what-all.

That's why it's a good idea not to believe any timeshare sellers who say you can show up whenever you want for "day use." Maybe you can, but then again maybe you can't. If not, it's for a good reason.

Day use is definitely offered at Grande Ocean and Barony Beach in Hilton Head but I don't know about Ocean Watch. Unfortunatley, I'm not sure how to go about finding out the truth - perhaps an owner can confirm for you.

day pass

I own at OW and I got a day pass while in town. I don't know if there are any limits as to how often or if it is at their discretion.

official answer

Sales manager at MOW told me the following (he's a great friend of mine and i've known him for a long time, so it's official and accurate):

"For sure, cannot use facilities during platinum plus week"....that would be July 4th week.

also, he said they "reserve the right to limit use during ANY week that has near full occupancy, simply because the facilities are very busy, and the priority goes to the guests who are in current occupancy."

... that is reasonable!

Any other Marriott resort will say the same about limiting usage during busy weeks.....i.e., "they reserve the right"..... but in actual practice, they usually don't.

I also don't know if day use privileges are offered as a replacement for someone's gym or pool membership. I think it is something that is offered for occasional use, not so you can go and use the exercise facilities every day before or after work and the pools every weekend.

I agree, and if someone does that, it's a sure way to ruin the privilege for everybody else, because they will surely stop it. They do keep track of those to whom they give the day passes, and how often.
